Columbia, NY ( March 30, 2020 ) -

As we work together to navigate these unprecedented and uncertain times, on behalf of Participant, we wanted to inform you that the team that brought you the film “Contagion”, including director Steven Soderbergh, writer Scott Z. Burns, along with key members of the ensemble cast, and Participant have partnered with scientists from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, one of the nation’s most preeminent schools of public health, to share evidence-based information about COVID-19 to better protect yourself and your community through several PSAs starring:

  • Matt Damon
  • Laurence Fishburne
  • Kate Winslet
  • Jennifer Ehle
  • In a time of rampant misinformation, we need information we can trust and evidence-based public health precautions that we can enact right now. The PSAs focus on key tactics to slow the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing, proper hand washing, and combating misinformation—all aimed at helping us protect ourselves and our communities during this pandemic. Utilizing the film’s longevity, these PSAs help bring scientific evidence to the broader public.

    Additional Background
These were all shot by the actors themselves— with no crew. (Kate Winslet’s was shot by her husband.)

They were written under the guidance of the same experts who worked on the film Contagion: Dr. Larry Brilliant, Mark Smolinski, Laurie Garrett and Dr. W. Ian Lipkin of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, where these PSA’s can be found.

Steven Soderbergh, screenwriter Scott Z. Burns, Participant and the cast of Contagion want to thank our experts for their guidance both then and now. This is a time when we all need to listen to public health experts, scientists and doctors who are fighting to stop the spread of COVID-19. These short films were our way of showing support for their brave and life saving work.
