Kinepolis Group Commits to Laser Projection For All its Sites Worldwide and Chooses Barco Laser to Upgrade 300 Screens Through 2021

CineEurope, Barcelona ( June 13, 2018 ) -

Kinepolis Group, which has a significant share of its current circuit already equipped with Barco projectors, has chosen Cinionic, the Barco cinema joint venture, to be its exclusive laser projection partner.

Over the next three years, Kinepolis will deploy an estimated number of 300 Barco laser projectors throughout its circuit, which now includes the recently acquired Canadian-based Landmark Cinemas. The estimated number includes both new builds and replacements of older models in existing sites. Cinionic will provide the perfect match for every screen, from smaller cinemas to complete multiplexes, including future ‘Laser ULTRA’ premium large format (PLF) venues.

“After fantastic results from our earlier Barco laser projector deployments, we’re excited to strengthen our partnership with Cinionic and roll-out laser to new theaters and other existing sites,” comments Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis. “As a pioneer for many of Barco’s cutting-edge cinema technologies we are proud to offer our customers the ultimate moviegoing experience they’ve come to expect from us. And what’s more, Barco laser projectors fit with our Green Star company policy, as they provide superior image quality while saving energy compared to Xenon based projectors.”

Growing commitment to Barco laser

Kinepolis premiered with laser projection in 2014, installing four Barco flagship laser projectors at its megaplexes in Antwerp and Brussels (BE), Madrid (ES) and Lomme (FR). In doing so, Kinepolis launched its ‘Laser ULTRA by Kinepolis‘ concept, combining the unique image quality of Barco’s flagship laser projector with the immersive sound system of Dolby Atmos. ‘Laser ULTRA’ by Kinepolis has become a proposition that is highly appreciated by customers and is now available in Antwerp, Ghent (BE), Madrid, Lomme, Fenouillet (FR), Utrecht (NL) and Breda (NL).

Further, in August 2016, Kinepolis was the the first exhibitor to launch an all-laser – powered by Barco – cinema complex in Europe, with the opening of its 10-screen theatre in Breda. Kinepolis has since opened all-laser cinemas in three additional locations: Granada (ES), Fenouillet and Utrecht. Within weeks, Kinepolis will also open a brand-new all-laser cinema complex in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (NL) and Brétigny-sur-Orge (FR).

The perfect solution for an all-laser multiplex

Featuring the world’s first 4K laser phosphor cinema projector, Cinionic’s full range of Barco Smart Laser projectors offer an excellent value proposition for Kinepolis: consistent laser image quality, 2K and 4K native resolution, enhanced ANSI and native contrast, proven DLP technology, and a long lifetime.

“We are honored that our long-term cinema partner Kinepolis has chosen Barco laser as their exclusive projection technology to expand their international footprint in premium cinema,” comments Wim Buyens, CEO of Cinionic. “It is our fondest desire to empower Kinepolis with a full complement of cinema experiences that help them differentiate their entertainment offering for today’s moviegoers.”
