Special public charity previews of “Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves” took place at 241 cinemas across the UK on Saturday 25th March, raising over £100,000 (gross) for MediCinema. Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, is a Paramount Production in association with eOne.
This Nationwide Preview Screening campaign was made possible thanks to the film’s distributor eOne and the participating exhibitors, all of whom donated their ticket income to support the charity. The film opened this weekend exclusively to cinemas and IMAX and is number 1 at the UK box office.
Patients in hospital were also treated to special previews at the in-hospital cinemas run by MediCinema: at the Serennu Children’s Centre in Newport, the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle, Guy’s Hospital and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.
David was one of the patients who got to see the film at the RVI. “As you can imagine there aren’t many things to look forward to being stuck in hospital for almost five months,” said his mum Eva. “He has had complications following a stem cell transplant in November 2022 and has had to endure a whole lot. Being whisked away to see Dungeons and Dragons was a priceless experience.”
MediCinema improves the wellbeing and quality of life of NHS patients through the power of the shared cinema experience, reducing feelings of isolation, anxiety and stress. Its in-hospital cinemas are designed to accommodate beds and medical equipment, improving emotional, mental, and physical health and strengthening patient resilience.

The many organisations who have given have pro-bono promotional support to this campaign include Amazon (IMDb), Channel Factory, Chicken Shop, Chinagraph, Daily Telegraph, ESPN, Hello!, Immediate Media, Limited Space, Motion Picture Solutions, Media Owner, Mobsta, Playwire, Powster, Sky TV, The Sun and Venatus.
The cinemas who took part were Abbeygate, Cineworld, Electric Birmingham, Empire, Everyman, Really Local Group, Light, Merlin, Odeon, Savoy, Showcase, Uckfield Picture House, Vue, WTW Scott, and Wells Film Centre.
Since MediCinema was founded in 1999 it has given more than 300,000 experiences to patients, their families, carers and those closest to them. More than half of the patients visiting a MediCinema report a reduction in pain and 93% say it helps them feel less isolated. MediCinema has cinemas at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children/Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Newport’s Serennu Children’s Centre, London’s Chelsea and Westminster and Guys Hospitals. The MediCinema at St Thomas’ is under reconstruction.
