India – PVR is said to have fired its Chief Business Development Officer Vijay Kapoor (above right) ‘on disciplinary grounds’. Kamal Gianchandani, Chief of Business Planning & Strategy, has been asked to take over Kapoor’s role immediately. “The employment of Vijay Kapoor who was employed as Chief Business Development Officer of the company has been terminated with effect from 20th April, 2017 on disciplinary grounds,” PVR said in a regulator filing, but would not go into further details when contacted. Odeon Printworks Manchester

UK – Manchester holders of Odeon Limitless passes worry about whether they will be able to use them or even get a refund, when Printworks changes hands from Odeon to Vue. “Odeon bosses say they will be in touch with Limitless members ‘to share all the relevant details’ when the Printworks site is sold.” But that’s not enough to reassure worried film fans. Unlike Cineworld and Odeon, Vue does not have an ‘unlimited’ scheme. Manchester Evening News – 19 April 2017

USA (KA) – Going on a spending spree for cinemas is not cheap, and AMC has just had the proverbial credit card bill for its big European splurge. “Higher depreciation and amortization costs ($125M-$130M), higher interest expenses ($62M-$65M) and merger and acquisition fees ($40M-$43M) will all impact the theater operator’s bottom line.” But with a generous credit line and a stock that has gone up 300% since Wanda IPO-ed it, don’t expect any need for belt-tightening at AMC. USA (CA) – Netflix has said that it will start offering its films in cinemas for exhibitor that wish to partner with it. But read the fine print and you will see that this is not a change in policy, as it has previously done day-and-date deals with smaller circuits, while bigger ones are not interested if there is no window of exclusivity. The issues was raised recently in France as two Netflix films will be screening in Cannes in May. In other non-news Netflix still has no plans to make its shows available as DVD box sets.
