Norway Cinema Screens Get the Christie RGB Pure Laser Projector Treatment

Christie has announced that 51 cinema screens across Norway are set to reap the benefits of its RGB laser illumination technology
Bergen, Norway ( October 26, 2020 ) -

Christie, a leader in creating and delivering the world’s best visual experiences, has announced that 51 cinema screens across Norway are set to reap the benefits of its RGB laser illumination technology as part of an extensive refit. Working with Film & Kino, the country’s alliance of cinema providers, and specialist integrator Unique Digital Nordic (UDN) AS, Christie is providing products from across its range of award-winning DCI compliant cinema projectors, including the flagship model CP4440-RGB, featuring Christie RealLaser, RGB pure laser illumination.

Norway was an early adopter of digital cinema, and in 2011 all 420 screens across the country were converted to the new digital format. The cinema estate consists primarily of Christie projection, with 51 screens in 23 cinemas now being upgraded to Christie RGB pure laser technology. UDN, based in Bergen, is a specialist provider of technology and services for the cinema industry and is carrying out the installation work at cinemas across the country.

Tor Brede Michelsen, Technical Sales Manager at UDN, has been involved in Norwegian digital cinema since the original roll out in 2011 and is overseeing this new phase of work: “It was a big step for Norway to fully embrace digital cinema almost ten years ago and there was a lot riding on how the Christie projectors performed. The fact is they performed beyond expectations and delivered the cinema experience demanded by exhibitors and audiences. They have also been very reliable and as warranties come up for renewal, we are taking the opportunity to update the projection with the latest Christie models.”

Adil Zerouali, Senior Sales Director Cinema EMEA at Christie, added: “I’m very proud of the role Christie has played in the adoption of digital cinema in Norway. I’m also pleased that our relationship with UCS and Film & Kino continues to work well and deliver for all concerned. I’m looking forward to our second decade of partnership and working together as cinema recovers from these, currently, challenging times.”

With RealLaser illumination technology onboard, Christie’s RGB pure laser cinema projectors comply with DCI standards and deliver more than 95 percent of the Rec. 2020 color space without filtering or color correction. The rich, deep, and intense colors along with high contrast create astounding visuals in 2K and 4K for audiences to enjoy, while delivering significant operational efficiencies.
