Landmark Cinemas Canada, acquired by Kinepolis Group in December 2017, has reached an agreement to acquire the Brighton Marketplace cinema of ‘Magic Lantern Theatres’ in Saskatoon (Saskatchewan). At the same time, Landmark Cinemas announced a partnership with Cadillac Fairview and Ivanhoé Cambridge, both Canadian real estate companies, to open a premium movie theatre at CF Market Mall in Calgary (Alberta).
The Brighton Marketplace cinema is currently under construction in the Brighton Marketplace, Saskatoon’s premier shopping centre developed by Dream Unlimited Corp, and will be completed by Landmark. The grand opening of the theatre is foreseen in June 2018. It will feature seven screens and 780 premium recliner seats.
As Saskatoon’s newest community and with over 240,000 square feet of retail and amenity space, Brighton is integrating residential, retail, business and entertainment offerings into one central neighbourhood. “Saskatoon is a priority market in Landmark’s growth strategy, and our acquisition of Magic Lantern’s theatre at the Brighton Marketplace represented the perfect opportunity to realize our plans,” said Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group.
The second project Landmark Cinemas announced this week, concerns a premium, new movie theatre at the CF Market Mall in Calgary. The grand opening is foreseen in the spring of 2019.
Located on the southwest corner of the centre, the new five-screen theatre will be outfitted in luxury recliner power seating, providing a premium movie-going experience for Calgarians. “At CF Market Mall, we’re proud to offer a dynamic and evolving mix which includes best-in-class retailers, dining options and now entertainment with the addition of Landmark Cinemas,” said Darren Milne, General Manager, CF Market Mall. “As a Calgary based company, Landmark Cinemas is incredibly excited to bring the recliner movie experience to CF Market Mall”, concludes Eddy Duquenne.
The new movie theatre at CF Market Mall will feature a five-screen complex with 619 Premium Powered Recliner seats, wall-to-wall screens, the latest in digital projection and sound, and an expanded concession offering.
Kinepolis Group acquired Landmark Cinemas Canada in December 2017. Landmark currently operates 43 cinemas of various sizes, all located in Central and Western Canada, and has its head office in Calgary (Alberta). Landmark Cinemas is Canada’s second largest cinema operator, with a market share of 10%.
