CGV - South Korea

The cinema giant has deployed 200 RGB pure laser projectors across its circuit thus far

Seoul, Korea ( April 1, 2024 ) -

Christie is pleased to announce that CGV, South Korea’s largest cinema chain and the fifth largest multiplex theatre company in the world, continues to place its trust in its RGB pure laser projectors featuring Christie Real|Laser illumination technology to deliver unmatched visuals to moviegoers.

To date, the cinema giant has acquired 200 Christie RGB pure laser projectors featuring state-of-the-art CineLife and CineLife+ Series electronics that simplifies playback, scheduling, and management of cinema content. These cutting-edge systems include the CP2415-RGB, CP4415-RGB, CP4420-RGB, CP4425-RGB, and CP4435-RGB models which will be installed in both premium large-format (PLF) venues and mainstream theatres across CGV’s multiplexes in South Korea, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

The deployment of Christie RGB pure laser cinema projectors stems from an exclusive agreement forged in 2023 between CGV and Christie. This collaboration is aimed at elevating the cinema experience across the markets served by CGV, including the ongoing replacement of aging lamp-based projectors to RGB pure laser illumination at certain venues. CGV’s strategic investment in Christie RGB pure laser projectors, designed for long-term efficiency with reduced consumables and energy savings, solidifies the cinema powerhouse as a leader in sustainability and ESG practices among exhibitors in the region.

A spokesperson from CGV said, “We are dedicated to employing leading-edge technologies that improve the cinema-going experience, placing a special emphasis on energy-efficient solutions. This commitment is vividly demonstrated through the transformative impact of Christie’s RGB pure laser projectors that are well regarded in delivering both outstanding visual quality and impressive energy efficiency. Together, we are poised to set new standards for cinematic excellence and redefine the way audiences engage with movies in our theatres.”

Han Kim, executive director for APAC, Cinema, Christie, commented, “We are grateful for CGV’s unwavering support and ongoing investment in Christie. This underscores the value Christie consistently delivers to esteemed customers like CGV, with whom we have cherished a longstanding relationship. We are committed to assisting CGV in creating the best cinematic experiences with our advanced RGB pure laser projectors fitted with ultra-fast electronics that expand the horizons of cinema projection technology.”

Christie’s contemporary CineLife+ projectors are DCI-compliant, offer stunning visuals with immaculate color and contrast, a long operational life, and are capable of reproducing 2D and 3D content at 4K resolution of up to 120 frames per second. Together with Christie Real|Laser that offer over 50,000 hours of optimal performance for RGB pure laser projectors as well as a streamlined UX-designed touch-panel, the CineLife+ Series is at the forefront of modern cinema.

These high-performance projectors deliver more than 95 percent of Rec. 2020 spec without filtering or color correction with superior contrast ratio. Through delivering remarkable operational efficiencies to cinema owners, the rich and intense color contrast of the projections create astounding visuals and optimal viewing experience for moviegoers to enjoy.
