UK & Ireland Box Office Update For June 2025: 18% Ahead of June 2024

UK box office revenue hit £76.7M in June—up 7% YoY—pushing 2025 totals past £500M and 18% ahead of 2024, boosted by Inside Out 2 at £34.9M

The total revenue for June is £76,694,583. This is 7% higher than the £71.7m recorded in June 2024, which was led by “Inside Out 2” contributing £34.9m. Year to date, we have now passed the half-billion milestone, currently tracking 18% ahead of 2024 and 9% ahead of 2023.

“How To Train Your Dragon” ranks as the No.1 film for the month, grossing £16.7m. With a debut of £8.1m, it surpassed “How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” (£5.3m) to achieve the highest opening in the franchise. The animated trilogy from DreamWorks Animation grossed a total of £63.1m, with “How To Train Your Dragon 2” being the best-performing instalment at £25.5m. Currently, the live-action film stands as the sixth-highest release of 2025, above “Thunderbolts*”(£16.2m) and below “Captain America: Brave New World” (£18.0m).

“28 Years Later” takes the No.2 position for the month, with £11.0m after two weeks on release. Danny Boyle’s horror sequel debuted with £4.7m, the highest opening in the franchise: 2002’s “28 Days Later” opened with £1.5m and totalled £6.3m, while the 2007 sequel “28 Weeks Later” also opened at £1.5m and achieved £5.4m over its lifetime. Already the biggest title in the franchise, it’s the third-highest grossing horror film of 2025 to date, close behind “Final Destination: Bloodlines” (£11.5m) and “Nosferatu” (£12.9m).

Joseph Kosinski’s sports drama F1: The Movie debuted at No.1 with £7.0m last weekend, and is the third-biggest June title with £9.8m to date. This marks the second-highest opening for the director, surpassed only by “Top Gun: Maverick” which opened at £15.9m. It represents the third-largest opening for Brad Pitt; among over 50 films he has appeared in, only “Deadpool 2” (£12.9m) and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” (£7.5m) had larger openings.

Having held the top position in May, “Lilo & Stitch” sits at No.4, contributing a further £7.6m in June. Disney’s latest animated remake has achieved a total of £35.2m to date, making it the distributor’s highest-grossing title of the year so far. Among Disney’s other family films, it has now surpassed the lifetime earnings of “Mufasa: The Lion King” (£33.4m) and “Up” (£34.7m), with “Aladdin” (£37.3m) and “Finding Nemo” (£37.4m) its next targets.

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is at No.5, grossing £6.4m for the month. Tom Cruise’s latest instalment has surpassed the £25m milestone, and with a total of £25.7m so far, it is just 4% shy of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” (£26.6m), putting it on track to be the biggest title in the franchise.

Another May holdover follows at No.6, as “The Salth Path” contributes an additional £4.6m in June. Marianne Elliott’s drama has grossed a total of £7.6m, making it the third-biggest release for distributor Black Bear, surpassing “Ferrari” (£4.2m) and trailing only “Longlegs” (£8.0m) and “Conclave” (£9.9m). The title is also the third-highest British film of the year, after “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy” (£46.3m) and “We Live In Time” (£8.7m).

Len Wiseman’s addition to the John Wick universe “Ballerina” sits at No.7, grossing £3.3m for the month.

The latest Pixar animation “Elio” is at No.8 for the month with £2.3m to date. Across the studio’s recent original titles, its opening of £973k was comparable to 2021’s Ron’s “Gone Wrong” which opened at £867k, and 2022’s “Strange World” debut of £836k; both films have gone on to achieve lifetime grosses of £4.6m and £4.0m respectively.

“Karate Kid: Legends” follows at No.9 with £2.3m for the month, bringing its total to date to £5.4m.

Closing the chart at No.10 is “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” grossing £1.6m for June. The sixth instalment in the horror series has a total of £11.5m, surpassing the lifetime total of “Final Destination” (£10.4m), placing as the second-biggest title in the franchise behind only “The Final Destination” (£12.8m).

July Preview

The month begins with the release of the seventh instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise, “Jurassic World Rebirth” (Universal) opening on Wednesday 2nd. The following weekend, it will be joined by James Gunn’s superhero blockbuster “Superman” (Warner), opening on 11th. Debuting on the 18th we have the fourth instalment in the slasher franchise “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (Sony), along with animated musical reboot led by Rihanna “Smurfs” (Paramount). The month wraps up with the 37th MCU film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” (Disney) opening on 24th, joined by the animated heist comedy sequel “The Bad Guys 2” (Universal) opening on 25th.
