San Francisco, California (September 18, 2019) – Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) and The United Cinema Chain “Kino OKKO” (Cinema Park & Formula Kino) have entered into an agreement for the first deployment of Dolby Cinema in Russia.
Kino OKKO will be the first company to introduce the Dolby Cinema experience to the Russian market at the Cinema Park Metropolis in Moscow, building on the popularity of Dolby Atmos immersive audio technology that has been successfully deployed at movie theatres in Russia in recent years.
A premium cinema offering for moviegoers, Dolby Cinema combines state-of-the-art picture and sound. With Dolby Vision, the picture comes alive with amazing brightness and darker darks to offer a more lifelike sense of depth, rendering colors and detail unlike other movie theaters. Studio grade Dolby Atmos transports guests inside the story with sound that flows all around them, including overhead. The sound in the cinema envelops viewers, making the story their reality. Dolby Cinema fully realizes the filmmaker’s intent, putting moviegoers in the middle of the action.
Combined with the Dolby Cinema design, all seats in the auditorium will be optimized to ensure every seat offers a “best seat in the house” experience for movie fans.
Alexey Vasyasin, Executive Director of the United Cinema Chain Kino OKKO (Cinema Park & Formula Kino) said: “Cinema lovers have lacked a really exciting, immersive experience, that would allow them to feel as if they were in the movie themselves. We are really excited that Dolby has selected our United Cinema Chain to introduce their Dolby Cinema concept in Russia. The difference in the movie viewing experience is going to be huge for Russian film fans. We will be able to offer a never-before-seen realism of image and sound and we’re confident that seeing a movie in any traditional cinema hall will seem very unremarkable for anyone after they’ve had a chance to experience the magic of Dolby Cinema.”
“Dolby has a long history of working with the leading studios, directors and cinema industry professionals in order to offer film fans the very best cinematic experience” said Doug Darrow, Senior Vice President, Dolby Cinema Business Group. “We’re looking forward to being able to bring uncompromised Dolby Cinema quality and innovation to the Russian market, and are very proud to enter the country with the United Cinema Chain Kino OKKO.”
There are 225 Dolby Cinema screens open globally, with a total of over 400 Dolby Cinema screens committed, and over 250 movie titles have been released or announced in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Nine of the top ten global box office films so far in 2019 have been available in Dolby Cinema.
