John Hsu, Head of Studio Distribution & Operations at The Walt Disney Company, Asia Pacific, will receive the “Distributor of the Year” Award at the CineAsia Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 11 December 2025 at the Millennium Hilton in Bangkok.

John Hsu has been a driving force in the media and entertainment industry, shaping film distribution across Asia-Pacific and beyond. From his early beginnings in distribution and exhibition in Hong Kong to his leadership roles at The Walt Disney Company, John’s career reflects both vision and accomplishment. “We cannot think of a more deserving recipient for this year’s award, honoring John for his many years of service and achievements,” said Andrew Sunshine, President of Film Expo Group.

With over 30 years in the film and entertainment business, John began his career with Disney in 2002 as Director of Finance for theatrical and home entertainment for APAC. Over the years, he held various roles including Executive Director of Sales and Finance APAC for the studio in 2009, before his appointment as Vice President & General Manager of The Walt Disney Company in Hong Kong.

In 2015, John moved to Shanghai where he spent nine years overseeing the China studio business, before his appointment as Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company China in 2022. John moved back to Hong Kong last year to take on a regional role as The Walt Disney Company’s Head of Studio Distribution & Operations for Asia Pacific, overseeing distribution for all live-action and animated films from Disney, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures.

Prior to Disney, John gained extensive experience in the film industry working at Intercontinental Group Holdings Ltd., a film distribution company and one of the leading multiplex cinema operators in Hong Kong.
