Arts Alliance Media (AAM), the global leader in digital cinema software and support services, have actioned Operation Beach Clean; an initiative designed to reduce environmental waste by removing litter from Britain’s beaches.
Equipped with litter pickers and bin liners, dedicated employees took to Whitstable Bay, Kent, on Tuesday 3rd November, where they battled the early winter conditions in a bid to collect all litter in sight. Executed across the east side of the bay, the initiative found a mass of fragmented plastic, glass bottles, cans and PPE scattered across the pebbled tourist hotspot, posing a threat not just to local residents, but to the environment and local wildlife.
In August this year, it was reported that coastal UK authorities are already finding high levels of single-use PPE, such as masks, gloves and wipes, discarded across British coastline, in addition to a substantial quantity of bottles and cans left over from beachgoer barbecues.
According to SAS [Surfers Against Sewage], approximately 5,000 items of marine plastic pollution have be found per mile across UK beaches, however with the help of local communities and environmental initiatives, we can all help to combat coastal pollution by ensuring litter is disposed of correctly.
Howard Kiedaisch, CEO of Arts Alliance Media, comments, “Despite COVID-19 restrictions, we have remained committed to our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Environmental welfare is a global issue and exercises like this prove that together we can make a big difference in reducing pollution.”
With the UK facing another nationwide lockdown before winter, Operation Beach Clean will resume later in 2021.
