Heavyweight theatrical re-release remastered in 4K includes exclusive first look scene from Amazon MGM’s upcoming “I Play Rocky”

DENVER, COLORADO ( April 15, 2026 ) -

Revered as one of the greatest films of all time, the legendary “Rocky” is lacing up for its 50-year anniversary November 7-11 with “Rocky 50,” remastered in 4K from Amazon MGM Studios, Park Circus, and Fathom Entertainment, the leading specialty distributor of content to theatrical partners worldwide.

Starring three-time Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone in the pantheon of all-time great movie roles, “Rocky” received ten Academy Award nominations and won three, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Film Editing. In 2006, the Library of Congress selected “Rocky” for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Along with a special, new anniversary logo, “Rocky 50” will also feature an exclusive look at the widely-anticipated biographical feature film, “I Play Rocky,” a Baha Fireside Production from Amazon MGM Studios and directed by Academy Award-winning director Peter Farrelly (“Green Book,” “There’s Something About Mary”), alongside an introduction from the “I Play Rocky” cast.

“The ultimate inspirational sports movie masterpiece, Rocky has a special place in the hearts of American cinematic history. Sylvester Stallone’s remarkable career – mirroring the very underdog spirit that Rocky embodies – is on full display in Rocky 50. Fathom could not be more proud to partner with Amazon MGM Studios and Park Circus to bring ‘Rocky’ back to the big screen remastered in 4K for a special 50-year celebration,” said Ray Nutt, Chief Executive Officer, Fathom Entertainment. “Just in time with an exclusive look and welcome prior to the world premiere of ‘I Play Rocky,’ ‘Rocky 50’ will be a must-see theatrical event beginning November 7.”

“I Play Rocky” tells the true story of Stallone and his unshakable belief that he was not just meant to write “Rocky,” he was meant to be Rocky Balboa. “I Play Rocky” is scheduled to open nationwide on November 20, with a limited theatrical release on November 13.

More on “Rocky”

Rocky Balboa (Stallone) is a struggling Philadelphia boxer who is scorned by his gym’s owner, patronized by a loan shark and rebuffed by a shy ‘plain-Jane’ (Talia Shire), whose butcher brother keeps engineering a romantic match. Rocky would have remained in this rut had not heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) come up with the Bicentennial gimmick to give a chance for a ‘nobody’ to become a ‘somebody’. The “Italian Stallion” trains earnestly and goes the distance…against all odds!

The film is directed by Academy Award winner John G. Avilsden from a screenplay and story by Stallone. The film is produced by Academy Award winners Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff of Charloff-Winkler Productions and stars Stallone, Shire, Weathers, Academy Award nominee Burt Young, Tony Burton, and Academy Award nominee Burgess Meredith.

Tickets for “Rocky 50” will be available online later this Fall and at participating theatre box offices (theatre locations are subject to change). For more information and to be among the first notified when tickets go on sale, please visit Fathom Entertainment.
