Apple Cinemas today announced plans for a multi-million-dollar transformation of its Providence location, representing a major investment in the future of moviegoing and out-of-home entertainment in Rhode Island.

The transformation is designed to take the traditional cinema experience far beyond simply watching a movie. Apple Cinemas plans to combine premium large-format moviegoing, immersive entertainment, bowling, food and beverage, and dramatically redesigned social spaces into one modern entertainment destination.

The extensive transformation will touch virtually every part of the guest experience, from the auditoriums and cinema corridors to the lobby, concessions, bar and entertainment areas.

A New Generation of Premium Auditoriums

A centerpiece of the project will be the complete modernization of Apple Cinemas Providence’s auditoriums, combining advanced cinema technology with a significant upgrade in guest comfort.

Every auditorium, from standard to premium, will feature new luxury recliner seating, giving guests a more spacious, comfortable and premium moviegoing experience throughout the entire theater. The upgrade is designed to make enhanced comfort a standard part of the Apple Cinemas Providence experience, regardless of which auditorium guests choose.

The transformed theater will also feature Apple Cinematic Experience (ACX), the company’s premium moviegoing experience, equipped with Dolby Atmos immersive audio and state-of-the-art 4K projection.

Dolby Atmos surrounds audiences with multidimensional sound, while 4K projection is designed to deliver exceptional image clarity, detail and color – creating a premium environment for today’s biggest theatrical releases.

The transformation also includes a dedicated ScreenX auditorium, expanding the movie beyond the traditional front screen onto the side walls to create a panoramic, immersive viewing experience.

Beyond the premium-format experiences, the theater’s auditoriums will be thoughtfully redesigned to create a more contemporary and inviting environment, with a consistent focus on guest comfort throughout the property.

IMAX with Laser – Already Upgraded

The transformation builds on an important investment Apple Cinemas has already completed at the property: the IMAX auditorium has been renovated and upgraded with the latest IMAX laser projection technology.

Together with the upcoming ACX and ScreenX experiences and luxury recliner seating in every auditorium, the Providence location will offer guests multiple premium ways to experience major Hollywood, international and event-film releases.

Movies Meet Immersive Entertainment

The project also represents Apple Cinemas’ broader vision for the future of theatrical entertainment. The transformation introduces a completely redesigned immersive bowling environment with contemporary lanes, dramatic lighting, digital displays, lounge-style seating and surrounding social areas.

The plans also include a dedicated immersive entertainment area, with concepts including interactive archery, slingshot and drift-car-themed experiences. The goal is to create a destination where guests can spend an entire evening – not simply arrive for a movie and leave when the credits roll.

A Completely Reimagined Lobby, Bar and Concessions Experience

Guests will see the transformation from the moment they enter. Apple Cinemas plans a significant redesign of the main lobby, bar, concessions and guest gathering areas, creating a contemporary hospitality-driven environment with distinctive architectural lighting, comfortable seating and spaces for guests to meet, dine and socialize.

The renovated beverage experience is also expected to include self-service beer and wine, providing guests of legal drinking age (21+) with greater convenience and choice, subject to applicable licensing and regulatory requirements.
