ICA’s Deluxe Cinema Award to Celebrate Investment in the Moviegoing Experience

Independent Cinemas Australia (ICA) has announced the inaugural Deluxe Cinema Award, recognising excellence in cinema renovation
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA ( March 10, 2026 ) -

Independent Cinemas Australia (ICA) has announced the inaugural Deluxe Cinema Award, recognising excellence in cinema renovation, restoration, new builds and major technical upgrades across the ICA network.

The award celebrates cinemas that have undertaken projects which enhance the moviegoing experience while strengthening the role of cinemas in their communities.

The Deluxe Cinema Award becomes only the third national award issued by ICA, joining the Bob Parr OAM Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Mark Safaty Award, presented by the ICA CEO in recognition of outstanding contribution to independent cinemas.

Independent exhibitors across Australia continue to invest in their venues despite a challenging operating environment. From heritage restorations to state-of-the-art builds and thoughtful refurbishments, these projects demonstrate the sector’s commitment to delivering world-class cinema experiences. Members in good standing may self-nominate or put forward a fellow member who they believe deserves recognition.

Alana Watts, Vice President, Cinema APAC, Deluxe, said the company was proud to recognise the ambition and commitment of Australian exhibitors.

“Choosing to renovate, restore, or build is a bold move. Every time an exhibitor has the opportunity and takes that leap, big or small, they’re investing directly in the moviegoing experience. By supporting this award, Deluxe is celebrating the passion, resilience, and long‑term vision we see across the ICA network every day. We’re proud to stand with the exhibitors who back their communities, elevate their venues, and shape the future of filmgoing.”

The Deluxe Cinema Award will be presented at the ICA Conference Gala Dinner, recognising projects that demonstrate excellence in design, audience experience and long-term sustainability in theatrical exhibition.

ICA CEO Nick Hayes said the award highlights the role independent cinemas play as cultural anchors in towns, suburbs and cities across Australia.

“Independent cinemas are continually reinvesting in their venues and communities. Whether it is a heritage restoration, a regional refurbishment, the introduction of premium large format experiences or a new boutique cinema concept, these projects show extraordinary commitment to keeping cinema vibrant and accessible for audiences across Australia.”

Nominations are open to ICA Commercial Exhibition Members in good standing for projects completed between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025. Eligible works include full renovations, heritage restorations, major refurbishments, new cinema builds and significant auditorium or technology upgrades.

The award will be presented at the ICA Conference Gala Dinner.
