From “The Princess Bride” (1987) and “Crouching Tiger,” “Hidden Dragon” (2000), to this year’s “The Christophers”, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has screened some of the most memorable world premieres in the cinema industry. As the festival’s Official Digital Projection Partner, and presenter of the TIFF Industry Conference this year, Christie honors TIFF’s 50th edition by lighting up the screens for the film slate scheduled Sept 4-14.
Marking 25 years as the official digital projection partner, Christie cinema projectors will be deployed across downtown Toronto’s finest venues– including Scotiabank Theatre, Roy Thomson Hall, Royal Alexandra Theatre, and the Princess of Wales Theatre – with many equipped with Christie RGB pure laser projection, and managed by a Christie technician. Featuring RealLaser illumination, which provides an unsurpassed festival-going experience with colorful, detailed, and true-to-life images, they are also the most energy-efficient and sustainable projectors on the market.
“As TIFF marks its 50th edition, we’re proud to celebrate 25 years of partnership with Christie, a company that has helped us deliver unforgettable cinematic experiences to our audiences,” said Diane Cappelletto, senior director, Technical Production, TIFF. “Christie’s innovation in projection technology continues to elevate the way stories are seen and felt on our screens, and together we’re honoring both the history of film and its bright future.”
“We’ve come a long way from 35mm film to RGB laser projectors, witnessing much change in cinema and filmmaking over the years. What hasn’t changed is how festivals showcase both experienced and emerging directors for their creative contributions, serving as a platform for numerous directorial debuts. We’re proud to support TIFF’s 50th edition, bringing extraordinary films to the screen for the Toronto audience to enjoy,” says Carmen Benyair, director, Communications and PR, at Christie.
