CJ’s Top Women In Global Cinema – 2024

By Celluloid Junkie Staff | July 11, 2024 3:24 pm PDT
CJ Top Women In Cinema - 2024

After receiving more nominations than ever before, after lengthy deliberations with the selection committee, one publication delay and the highest-ever standard for candidates, we are proud to present the eighth edition of our Top Women In Global Cinema list.

It’s safe to say that this year has been the most difficult selection process ever. This is, of course, a big positive for the industry; that women are being hired, recognised, celebrated and put forward for the stellar work they do in a heavily male-dominated industry. But it also means that, with only 50 places, we can’t spotlight everyone we’d like to. Please know that competition this year was so fierce we nearly gave up mid-selection. (We’re only half joking.)

Some of the names you may expect to find on the list might actually be in consideration for our third annual Top Women In Distribution list, which will be published in the fourth quarter of this year. Others may have only begun working in the cinema industry during 2023 and will be eligible in future years. With recognition of these lists growing – and we thank you sincerely for giving us your attention – it has become apparent that, moving forward, clearer parameters and qualifications for nominations and the final selection are required.

The criteria taken into consideration by this year’s committee were that a candidate work in the motion picture exhibition industry for the entirety of 2023, their role within a company or organization, any professional achievements during the 12-month period, the overall company success and, since we want a truly global list, their geographical location.

Perhaps the most crucial element, however, is that we actually receive a nomination for any given candidate. Those that included biographic information and specific reasons are important and helpful to the process. This is why we do our best to spread the word for nominations as widely as possible. If names you nominated aren’t included this year, please know we considered every single one and they are now firmly on our radar.

Finally, we’d like to give a huge thanks to this year’s committee which included UNIC’s Laure Gaultier and industry consultant Harry Medved.

So here it is, in all its glory – Celluloid Junkie’s Top Women In Global Cinema 2024.
