Soprano Lise Davidsen returns to the Met as Isolde, opposite tenor Michael Spyres as Tristan, both making Met role debuts; director Yuval Sharon makes his Met debut
The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 “Live in HD” season continues with Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” in select U.S. theatres from Fathom Entertainment on Saturday, March 21, at 12PM ET, in a new production by director Yuval Sharon in his company debut. Soprano Lise Davidsen makes her long-anticipated company role debut as Isolde, following a triumphant run at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. One of the most in-demand dramatic sopranos of her generation, Davidsen marks a major artistic milestone in her Wagnerian repertoire with this production.
Opposite Davidsen, tenor Michael Spyres stars as Tristan, also making his Met role debut. The performance is conducted by the Met’s Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who leads “Tristan und Isolde” at the Met for the first time.
The cast also features mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova reprising her acclaimed portrayal of Brangäne, bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as Kurwenal, and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green, who makes an important role debut as King Marke.
In his Met debut, Sharon approaches Wagner’s masterpiece as a meditation on reality, hallucination, and transformation—imagining the opera as one transcendent episode within an endless cycle of death and rebirth.
The production brings together a celebrated creative team, including set designer Es Devlin, costume designer Clint Ramos, choreographer Annie-B Parson, projection designer Jason H. Thompson, and Tilman Michael, the Met’s C. Graham Berwind, III Chorus Director. Lighting designer John Torres and video designer Ruth Hogben both make their Met debuts. The March 21 performance of “Tristan und Isolde” will mark the opera’s 467th performance at the Met and third “Live in HD” transmission to cinemas worldwide.
Fathom Entertainment will also present two encores of “Tristan und Isolde” in theatres on Wednesday, March 25, at 12:00PM and 6:30PM local time.
Tickets for Tristan und Isolde are available online and at participating theatre box offices (theatre locations are subject to change). For more information, visit Fathom Entertainment.
Gary Halvorson will direct the Live in HD presentation for cinemas, and Lisette Oropesa will host the transmission, sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes content and interviews during the intermissions.
