Reading Cinemas Australia Announces December Box Office Record

Reading Cinemas Australia sets a new record for its highest-ever December box office in 2024, surpassing the previous peak from December 2019
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA ( January 21, 2025 ) -

Reading Cinemas Australia, an affiliate of Reading International, Inc. (“Reading”), announced today that 2024 set a new record as the company’s all time highest December Box Office result, eclipsing the previous record held by December 2019. The December result follows another record month, with November 2024 also taking the podium as the best November Box Office in Australian company history.

“What a fantastic way to round out 2024!” said Mark Douglas, Managing Director of Reading Cinemas Australia. “Following on from a remarkably strong November, it is very exciting to see December 2024 outperform all previous years. On the back of Blockbuster titles such as ‘Wicked,’ ‘Gladiator 2’ and ‘Moana 2’ in November, we continued to see very solid results from ‘Mufasa: The Lion King,’ ‘Better Man’ and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3.’ With ‘Paddington in Peru,’ ‘Conclave’ and ‘We Live in Time’ also now showing and ‘A Complete Unknown’ opening this Thursday, there truly is something for everyone to see at their local Reading Cinema.”

Along with rounding out the year with two Box Office records, the company also launched a brand-new Loyalty Program, Reading Rewards. The updated, modern offering gives customers the opportunity to earn and redeem points for a range of rewards across both Ticketing and Food and Beverage. In addition, for only $20 a year, customers can upgrade their membership to a Boost tier – offering 15% off Tickets and 10% off Food and Beverage, along with double points and access to Boost member exclusive promotions. Further information on Reading Rewards can be found at www.readingrewards.com.au

Looking ahead to 2025, the film line up is set to be very strong with a slew of Blockbusters from “A Complete Unknown,” “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” primed to keep the momentum up over the coming weeks.
