Proprietary platform reaches major milestone as exhibitor demand for studio-approved digital marketing assets continues to accelerate
As 2026’s resurgence of moviegoing continues, PaperAirplane Media announced today that The Hangar, the company’s proprietary Digital Asset Management platform for theatrical exhibition, has surpassed two million downloads of studio-provided digital marketing assets, marking a major milestone for the industry-leading platform.
Launched during the height of the pandemic in October 2020, The Hangar was created to solve a longstanding challenge for exhibitors: quickly and efficiently accessing approved marketing materials from studio partners. Since then, the platform has evolved into the theatrical industry’s primary and most trusted source for digital marketing assets, serving exhibitors throughout North America and an expanding international footprint.
Today, PaperAirplane Media works with virtually every major studio, exhibitor, and theatrical content partner operating within the North American marketplace. The company’s network includes leading exhibition circuits, independent theatre operators, premium large format providers, strategic industry partners such as IMAX, Dolby, CJ 4DPLEX (4DX and ScreenX), DBox and Coca-Cola, and numerous distribution and marketing organizations. This broad participation has helped establish The Hangar as a critical piece of infrastructure connecting content creators, distributors, exhibitors, and moviegoers throughout the theatrical ecosystem.
For exhibitors, The Hangar provides a centralized platform to access studio-approved marketing materials for use across social media channels, websites, email campaigns, mobile apps, loyalty programs, and push notifications. The permission-based platform also provides studios with visibility into asset usage, reporting, and accountability, creating a more efficient and transparent marketing workflow for all stakeholders.
This summer alone, The Hangar facilitated the download of hundreds of thousands of assets by national, regional, and independent theatre operators, underscoring its importance as an essential daily operational tool across the exhibition industry.
PaperAirplane reports that Social Media Videos represented the most downloaded asset type this summer, accounting for approximately 27% of all downloads. Social Media Graphics followed at 23%, while Digital Lobby Posters comprised 19% of downloads. Web Banners accounted for 12%, and Production Stills represented approximately 8%, highlighting the growing importance of digital audience engagement and localized marketing efforts.
Since launch, the volume of digital marketing assets provided through The Hangar has increased more than fivefold. Today, the average wide-release film campaign supplies exhibitors with hundreds of approved marketing assets designed to support audience outreach throughout a film’s theatrical run.
“When we launched The Hangar back in 2020, we had no idea we would be creating a vital piece of industry infrastructure,” said Mike Polydoros, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PaperAirplane Media. “We were simply trying to solve a very real problem exhibitors faced in accessing approved marketing materials. Seeing the platform surpass two million downloads is a testament to the collaboration between studios and exhibitors, and to the industry’s commitment to making theatrical marketing more efficient and effective.”
“Our studio partners immediately recognized the value of having greater visibility into how marketing assets were being utilized,” added Will Preuss, President and Co-Founder of PaperAirplane Media. “For the first time, they could clearly see which assets were driving engagement and which materials were not being used. That insight has helped create more efficient campaigns, stronger collaboration, and better outcomes across the theatrical marketplace.”
Sustained Growth Since Launch
The Hangar’s growth reflects its expanding role within studio and exhibitor workflows:
- More than two million cumulative asset downloads
- Annual asset additions increased from 2,454 assets in 2020 to more than 61,000 assets in 2025
- User adoption has grown by more than 1,500%
- Title coverage expanded from approximately 25 films in 2020 to more than 2,750 titles
- Participating industry partners increased from 11 partners to more than 105 studios, distributors, and content partners
- Geographic reach expanded from the United States to 27 global territories
- The platform now averages approximately 360 unique users daily, 1,000 weekly users, and 1,800 monthly users
With its scale, reliability, and ease of use, The Hangar has become the theatrical industry’s primary hub for digital marketing asset distribution.
Building the Infrastructure for Modern Theatrical Marketing
The Hangar is part of a larger ecosystem of technology and marketing solutions developed by PaperAirplane Media to support the evolving needs of studios, exhibitors, and content partners.
Founded in July 2020, PaperAirplane Media is a privately held company that has grown rapidly alongside the theatrical industry’s recovery and transformation. What began as a small team focused on solving exhibitor marketing challenges has evolved into one of the industry’s most trusted marketing technology and services partners. Today, the company employs 10 full-time team members supporting an extensive network of studio, exhibitor, and content partners throughout North America and beyond.
In 2024, the company expanded its technology offering with the launch of The Tower, a proprietary group sales management platform that centralizes communication, streamlines lead management, and provides real-time visibility into group sales activity. To date, The Tower has managed more than 10,000 group sales leads and helped facilitate millions of dollars in theatrical group sales revenue across multiple film campaigns.
Continuing its investment in theatrical technology, PaperAirplane has also developed Flight Plan, a theatrical distribution campaign dashboard designed to give distribution and marketing teams a centralized view of every component of a theatrical release. The platform aggregates campaign activity across multiple channels and initiatives, providing studios with instant visibility into key marketing, promotional, exhibitor, media, and performance metrics through a single interface. By bringing critical campaign data together in one place, Flight Plan enables studio teams to better monitor release execution, improve collaboration across departments, identify opportunities, and make more informed decisions throughout a film’s theatrical lifecycle.
Beyond its technology solutions, PaperAirplane has earned the trust of partners throughout the theatrical ecosystem as a leading creative and marketing resource. Since its founding, the company has produced nearly 75,000 studio-approved digital marketing assets for major studio campaigns and has worked directly with independent distributors to support exhibitor marketing initiatives for more than 250 theatrical releases. Those films have collectively generated nearly $500 million in domestic box office revenue, demonstrating PaperAirplane’s ability to help drive theatrical awareness and audience engagement.
Earlier this year, PaperAirplane expanded further with the launch of its National Radio & Media Ambassador Division, connecting theatrical campaigns with trusted local radio personalities and media ambassadors throughout North America.
The company has also introduced The Kiosk, a grassroots audience activation platform that empowers moviegoers to serve as advocates within their local communities, helping studios generate authentic word-of-mouth awareness and attendance.
Together, these platforms and services create a comprehensive marketing ecosystem that supports nearly every aspect of theatrical promotion, from asset distribution and exhibitor marketing to studio campaign oversight, group sales, influencer outreach, radio promotion, and community engagement.
The 2 million-download milestone represents more than platform growth. It reflects the increasing importance of digital marketing within theatrical exhibition and underscores The Hangar’s role as the industry’s central destination for approved studio marketing materials.
“Our mission remains simple,” said Polydoros. “We want to simplify workflows, strengthen campaigns, and provide studios and exhibitors with the tools they need to maximize theatrical attendance. Crossing the two-million-download milestone validates that vision and motivates us to continue innovating for the industry we love.”
