MyFilmClub Becomes the First Mobile App in the UK to Generate Cinema Ticket Sale Commission and Track End Purchase Data

New partnerships with Go2Cinema and Devicescape causes powerful popcorn shaking tremors

London, UK ( October 23, 2017 ) -

Under The Influence Of… is today thrilled to announce its mobile app, MyFilmClub®, has become the first mobile app to incorporate generating commission income from cinema ticket sales in the UK & IRE, whilst also tracking cinema goers from first contact through to purchase. The functionality is in partnership with Go2Cinema.com, who have deals in place with the majority of the leading cinema chains.

Traditionally, most distributors use third party ticketing pages and don’t know after cinema showtime click-through whether a transaction is completed – leaving a question mark over the efficacy of distributors advertising and marketing strategies. Until now.

Wez Merchant, Founder of Under The Influence Of… and Creator of MyFilmClub®, says “The whole concept of the app was born from a frustration because there weren’t any decent film apps available in the UK – and certainly none which incorporate social functionality, community and commercial insight. The more the app developed, the more industry problems and insights we encountered – mainly who goes to the cinema, where and why. The lack of available data led us to this problem and we were delighted to develop a partnership with Go2Cinema for the solution.

Gajus Kuizinas, Founder of Go2Cinema, says “I’m excited about MyFilmClub using our showtime data and becoming an affiliate partner. This partnership is a great example of how making data freely available and creating monetization incentives enables new disruptive businesses in the UK cinema industry.”

The deal with Go2Cinema builds on the recent partnership with Devicescape, which offers proximity advertising via the app, beginning this month. Using the Devicescape Engage solution MyFilmClub® will offer consumers location-targeted, in-venue push notifications promoting offers and content from the leading brands in the film and cinema sector.

Devicescape’s VP Market Development, Owen Geddes, says: “We are delighted to be partnering with MyFilmClub to engage film fans with location relevant content, and to help MyFilmClub drive a premium advertising revenue stream which does not interfere with the core app experience.”

Keeping the app clean of annoying advertising pop-ups and takeovers was something Under The Influence Of… was keen to implement.

Wez Merchant, said ‘The app is free to download, so we do not generate any income from download sales. Obviously there are back end costs to pay for and we could have easily signed up to an advertising network to help cover those. However, we wanted to change things for the end consumer and we determined right from the start that we will only advertise film and film related content to the end user – it’s a film app after all. As such we create our own advertising from clients’ assets, which is subsequently approved, and then blended seamlessly with the apps content. This does not irritate the end consumer but still gets the messaging across for the advertiser.”

Currently, the MyFilmClub® app includes advertising for the release of 20th Century Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express on the 3rd of November. The 4-week advertising package was kindly donated to The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund charity to be a part of its Media Auction package at its annual Summer Party fundraiser. A similar advertising package has also been donated to MediCinema for their fundraising Movie Quiz later this week.

The MyFilmClub® app, which launched at the start of June has delivered an organic growth to 4,000 downloads, has developed a string of strategic partnerships and allegiances with a number of industry organisations and companies including BASE (British Association of Screen Entertainment), Into Film, Discover.Film, OurScreen and The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.

MyFilmClub® is available to download for free on iPhones, iPads and Android devices and mobile phones now via the App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/my-film-club/id1102750525?ls=1&mt=8) and Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.utio.myfilmclub)
