Sanders (“Snow White and the Huntsman,” “Ghost in the Shell,” “Foundation”) directed the revenge thriller written by Academy Award nominee Zach Baylin (“Creed III,” “King Richard”) and Will Schneider. The film is based on the graphic novel of the iconic character created, written, and illustrated by James O’Barr. The film also stars Laura Birn (“Foundation”), Sami Bouajila (2021 Best Actor César Award-winner, “A Son”), and Jordan Bolger (“The Woman King”).
“The Crow” is produced by Victor Hadida (“Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill” franchises), Molly Hassell (“Terminal,” “Braven”), John Jencks (Honest Thief, Guns Akimbo), the late Samuel Hadida (Tony Scott’s “True Romance,” Terry Gilliam’s “Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus,” and the “Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill” franchises), and the late Edward R. Pressman (The Crow starring Brandon Lee, Academy Award winner “Wall Street,” “American Psycho”). The production companies are Davis Films, Hassell Free Productions, Electric Shadow Company, and Pressman Film, now led by Sam Pressman. The film was shot on location in Prague and Munich.
“We appreciate what The Crow character and original movie mean to legions of fans and believe this new film will offer audiences an authentic and visceral reinterpretation of its emotional power and mythology,” said Koh. “To work with a creative team led by Rupert’s unparalleled visual style and storytelling and with a producing team who have made some of the most popular and impactful films of the last several decades is a true privilege,” said Koh.
“The original film left an indelible mark on our culture that lives on,” said the producers in a joint statement. “We are thrilled to bring a new adaptation for today’s audiences that respects this legacy. Rupert has masterfully brought new dimensions to create a contemporary universe for this timeless saga of undying love, and we can’t wait to share this vision with film audiences.”
The Crow was first published by Caliber Comics in 1989. Director Alex Proyas brought the story to the screen in 1994’s “The Crow,” which starred the late Brandon Lee and became a cult classic.
CAA Media Finance handled the deal for the film’s domestic distribution rights. Koh will oversee the film for Lionsgate. John Biondo oversaw the deal on behalf of Lionsgate.
