Chris Pine to star and produce

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA ( May 5, 2025 ) -

Lionsgate has acquired worldwide rights to the upcoming action film “Run the Night,” to star Chris Pine. The announcement was made today by Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

“Run the Night” will be directed by Robert Alonzo, who is one of the most well-respected second unit directors in the business. Alonzo utilizes his vast knowledge of animation, visual effects, and special effects to design and direct character-driven, propulsive action. His innovative work can be seen on films such as “Deadpool,” “The Batman,” and “The Flash,” to name a few. This marks his feature directorial debut.

The screenplay is by John Glenn & Alex Davidson, with a story by Glenn. Glenn is currently working with Lionsgate Television on “Robin Hood” for MGM+.

Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures will produce alongside Hidden Pictures president Alex Young; Chris Pine and Ian Gotler, via their Barry Linen banner, and John Glenn. Lieberman is currently producing Lionsgate’s “The Housemaid,” “War Machine” and “After Shock,” with Brandon Sklenar, as well as “Robin Hood.” He also has “Voltron,” for Amazon MGM Studios. Lorenzo De Maio will executive produce.

In “Run the Night,” a banker, accused of betraying the Penose (the Dutch mob), is dumped naked in the heart of Amsterdam with a $10 million bounty on his head. Hunted by the city’s most violent gangs, he must fight his way across the city by dawn to save the lives of his wife and child — revealing he was never just the money guy.

James Myers will oversee the project for Lionsgate. Dan Freedman negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.

“Chris is an incredible actor and has the perfect combination of warmth and physicality needed to bring this role to life,” said Fogelson. “We’re proud to be the home of Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures and to be partnering with him and the exceptionally talented filmmaking team on this riveting and explosive action thriller.”

“Rob Alonzo is the next great action director,” added Lieberman. “With Rob’s talent behind the camera and our movie star Chris in front, I’m excited by what we have in store for audiences.”

“I love this story, character, and reuniting with Rob,” said Pine. “There are so many places for this character to go, and I’m excited about the possibilities of bringing him to life on the big screen.”

Chris Pine’s credits include “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” the “Wonder Woman” franchise, and the “Star Trek” trilogy.

Two-time SAG Award winner Robert Alonzo has notched over 200 credits in film, television, commercials, and music videos as a stunt performer, fight choreographer, stunt coordinator, and second unit director. In 2024, he co-founded the production company Tremor House with Jonathan Spano to develop, produce, and finance mid-budget action films. Alonzo most recently directed the action on Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World” and is currently in production as the second unit director on “Avengers: Doomsday.”

John Glenn is showrunning Lionsgate Television’s “Robin Hood” for MGM+. He also recently wrote and produced the feature Elevation; his many other credits include the feature “Eagle Eye” and the Paramount+ series “SEAL Team.”

Pine is represented by CAA and Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham. Alonzo is represented by WME and manager Holly Jeter. Glenn is represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
