“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has claimed the biggest opening weekend of 2026, dominating the Australian Box Office with record-breaking results. The blockbuster delivered $30.4M on its debut weekend and attracted over 1.8 million movie fans into cinemas between Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August.
The film was released on 30 July and earned $6.3 million on its opening day, marking the biggest Thursday opening since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021. It has also achieved the second-biggest opening weekend in history, trailing only to the $34.1 million four-day opening of “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.
The highly anticipated film starring Tom Holland and Zendaya made cinematic history as the first Hollywood blockbuster to be ‘Shot for ScreenX’, integrating ScreenX into the filmmaking process to deliver an immersive 270-degree panoramic viewing experience.
HOYTS Group President and CEO Damian Keogh said “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is a cinematic event that is on course to become one of the biggest releases of 2026.
“We congratulate our partners at Sony Pictures on this outstanding achievement. It’s remarkable to see so many movie fans flock to cinemas to experience Marvel’s latest blockbuster,” Keogh said.
“Audiences are looking for more than just a movie. They want an experience, and our premium cinema formats, such as ScreenX, HOYTS APEX and D-BOX, transform blockbuster releases into unforgettable, immersive events.”
“As the first Hollywood film to be Shot for ScreenX, this release has generated exceptional interest across our ScreenX network. We’ve seen strong admissions in these cinemas at Blacktown, Melbourne Central and our brand-new ScreenX location, Sydney’s Broadway.”
Over the film’s opening weekend, HOYTS ranked as the leading cinema circuit for admissions. To celebrate the launch of ScreenX at HOYTS Broadway, guests enjoyed a special Spider-Man character appearance, while free collectible pins were also available at sessions on 1 August to mark the anniversary of Spider-Man’s first appearance in Marvel Comics.
Audiences can experience “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” across a range of premium formats, including ScreenX, HOYTS APEX, D-BOX, Xtremescreen and HOYTS LUX, as well as in traditional cinema sessions, offering a viewing experience to suit every movie fan.
