James Cameron’s groundbreaking Academy Award winning action/sci-fi film returns to theatres worldwide in 4K, RealD 3D and premium formats
StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures today announced that James Cameron’s Oscar winning and groundbreaking Sci-Fi action classic is set to return to cinemas in 4K, RealD 3D and premium formats.
To mark the 35th anniversary, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” will open in U.S. theatres August 28 through September 2, 2026 and a range of late August/early September premiere dates worldwide (see below) to commemorate T2’s “Judgment Day”
(August 29).
Originally released in 1991, T2 remains one of the highest-grossing and most influential films ever made. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, and Robert Patrick, the film earned four Academy Awards and revolutionized action cinema with effects that still hold up today. “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” holds a 90% critics score and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The U.S. release has a wide national theatrical footprint from a partnership between Fathom Entertainment, the leading specialty distributor of content to theatrical partners worldwide, and Rialto Pictures, with StudioCanal handling global distribution across worldwide territories. The 4K and 3D presentation uses StudioCanal’s acclaimed 2017 restoration and 3D conversion.
