Recounts a story of the redemption of a larger-than-life radio icon
On October 7 (the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary), audiences nationwide will have the opportunity for one night only to see exclusively on the big screen a feature-length documentary recounting a story about redemption with “Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story.” Matthews’ miraculous true story of fame, brokenness and redemption is told in the inspirational film and will be distributed by Fathom Entertainment, the leading specialty distributor of content to theatrical partners worldwide.
Produced by ODB Films and Family Theater Productions in association with Windrider and Dynamic Catholic, “Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story” is Matthews’ story of his early years in radio and stand-up comedy, blending humor with heartfelt storytelling; his successful career; his struggle with multiple sclerosis; and, most importantly, his divine encounter with a broken statue of the Virgin Mary that changed his life — and the lives of countless others.
Told with Matthews’ signature good humor, this confession of the brokenness of mankind is touchingly honest, personally inspiring and full of hope.
“Kevin’s story reminds us that even in the darkest moments, hope can be found in the most unexpected places — sometimes right beside a dumpster,” said Eric Groth, producer of “Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story” and president of ODB Films. “‘Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story’ is a testament to the power of grace and the fact that no one is too broken to be loved and redeemed. We hope this film inspires audiences to look at their own brokenness not as an ending, but as the place where something beautiful can begin.”
More on “Broken Mary: The Kevin Matthews Story”
Kevin Matthews had it all as one of the nation’s most recognized on-air radio personalities in Chicago in the 1980s and ’90s, partying with celebrities and famous athletes, such as Michael Jordan, Bill Murray, Ted Nugent and Dana Carvey, among many others. He was a radio legend whose impersonations, pranks and comedy brought entertainment to 10 million listeners a week at the height of his popularity. The world was at his fingertips — until he was diagnosed with a debilitating disease and his prestige faded.
At the peak of his anguish, Matthews stumbled upon a broken statue of the Virgin Mary next to a dumpster, and his life took the most unexpected, life-altering turn that helped him find his true purpose and calling, discovering what matters most.
