Dolby Laboratories And Cineplexx Bring Dolby Cinema Experience To Vienna For The First Time With Launch Of A New Dolby Cinema At Village Cinema Wien Mitte

London ( September 19, 2019 ) -

Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) and Cineplexx today announced the opening of the first Dolby Cinema in Vienna at the Village Cinema / Wien Mitte with the premiere of the new blockbuster movie Ad Astra. The collaboration with Dolby forms a part of Cineplexx’s modernization strategy as it  underlines its commitment to deliver the best possible cinema experience to its customers in Austria. A second Dolby Cinema site is also planned to open later in the year.

A premium cinema offering for moviegoers, Dolby Cinema combines state-of-the-art picture and sound. With Dolby Vision, the picture comes alive with amazing brightness and darker darks to offer a more lifelike sense of depth, rendering colours and detail unlike other movie screens. Studio grade Dolby Atmos transports guests inside the story with sound that flows all around them, including overhead. The sound in the cinema envelops viewers, making the story their reality. Dolby Cinema fully realizes the filmmaker’s intent, putting moviegoers in the middle of the action.

Combined with the Dolby Cinema design, all 300 seats in the Wien Mitte auditorium are optimized to ensure every seat offers a “best seat in the house” experience for movie fans.

Christian Langhammer, CEO of Cineplexx said: “Dolby Cinema is an excellent and highly developed premium experience and we’re proud to be offering this to our customers in Vienna and creating together with Dolby, a new chapter of storytelling for film fans in the German speaking cinema market.”

Doug Darrow, Senior Vice President Dolby Cinema Business Group added: “Vienna is a wonderful city and we’re excited to offer movie fans the opportunity to  experience the magic of Dolby Cinema in the Austrian capital. This Viennese site opening will ensure that film fans across the city will be able to enjoy an unrivalled cinematic experience as we continue our European expansion for Dolby Cinema.”

There are 225 Dolby Cinema screens open globally, with a total of over 400 Dolby Cinema screens committed, and over 250 movie titles have been released or announced in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Nine of the top ten global box office films so far in 2019 have been available in Dolby Cinema.
