Shark Week, the week-long TV programming block on the Discovery Channel premiered almost three decades ago in 1988. Shark Week has continued to reach new heights in popularity and is now broadcast in over 200 countries and territories worldwide, making it a huge hit for the network. It is now the longest running cable television programme in American history and highly referenced in pop culture and across social media.
This breath-taking cinema event- designed to inform and entertain- will provide shark hungry fans the ability to experience the pop culture phenomenon and these magnificent creatures up close in all their glory on the big screen with the full high definition, 4K Dolby experience in selected sites.
Cinema attendees can also bring a piece of the action home by receiving free exclusive in-app content from Discovery’s ‘Shark Strike’ game and goodies from Ubisoft’s FGOL’s bestselling mobile game, Hungry Shark, in select sites.
Shark Week is devoted to conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions which is why CinEvents is also collaborating with The Shark Trust for this event to celebrate the fantastic diversity and fascinating behaviour of the ocean’s most charismatic creatures.
Tickets are on sale and customers will be able to find their closest participating cinemas and more event information for Shark Week at the cinema online via www.sharkweekcinema.com
“We look forward to work with Discovery to launch Shark Week across the UK in this cinema exclusive,” CinEvents Founder Joe Evea said. “We aim to bring new and exciting content to the big screen and this will be the first of many ground breaking big screen experiences with Discovery.”
Rebecca Diver Phillips, Senior Marketing & Communications Director at Discovery Channel UK and Ireland, said: “Shark Week is a celebration of these magnificent animals that have prowled Earth’s seas for 400 million years. Known for their size, power and fearsome jaws, sharks are awe-inspiring and a fascinating and vital part of the ocean’s ecosystems. The new partnership with CinEvents will make Shark Week even bigger this year so fans can sink their teeth into spectacular shark documentaries on the big screen.”
