Seville International is proud to announce that two of their titles are set to premiere as part of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival’s Official Selection this May – Xavier Dolan’s “Matthias et Maxime” and Monia Chokri’s “La Femme de Mon Frere” (“A Brother’s Love”).
“Matthias et Maxime” will make its world premiere in competition at Cannes, marking a homecoming for Dolan who was last at the festival in 2016 with “Juste La Fin du Monde” (“It’s Only The End of The World) which won the Grand Prix and the Ecumenical Jury Prize. In “Matthias et Maxime”, two childhood best friends are asked to share an onscreen kiss for the purposes of a student short film. Soon, a lingering doubt sets in, confronting both men with their preferences, threatening the brotherhood of their social circle and, eventually, changing their lives. Dolan stars in the film alongside Gabriel D’Almeida-Freitas (“Mon ami Walid”), Pier-Luc Funk (“Un été sans point ni coup sûr”), and Anne Dorval (“Mommy”). “Matthias et Maxime” is the eighth feature film from writer-director-editor Xavier Dolan and was produced by Nancy Grant and Xavier Dolan.
“We’ve had a close relationship with Xavier Dolan for years and it’s been an honour to watch this talented filmmaker evolve – we can’t wait to share “Matthias et Maxime”,” said Anick Poirier, SVP of Sales, Seville International.
Seville International is equally excited that the talented Monia Chokri’s feature “La Femme de Mon Frère” has been selected to Un Certain Regard.
“Monia Chokri is a unique, fresh talent; “La Femme de Mon Frère” is an intimate look inside a family dynamic that is sure to resonate with audiences,” said Anick Poirier, SVP of Sales, Seville International.
In Monia Chokri’s “La Femme de Mon Frère”, a new love puts sibling bonds to the test. This is the first feature film from writer-director Chokri, following the critical reception of her short film “Quelqu’Un D’Extraordinaire” (“An Extraordinary Person”) which played numerous festivals around the world. “La Femme de Mon Frère” stars Anne-Élizabeth Bossé (“Heartbeats”), Patrick Hivon (“Ravenous”), Sasson Gabai (“Rambo III”), Évelyne Brochu (“Tom at the Farm”, “Café de Flore”) and Mani Soleymanlou (“Malek”), and was produced by Nancy Grant and Sylvain Corbeil of Metafilms.
