Movie-going enhancement renovations continuing at high-demand IMAX at AMC locations
IMAX Corporation (IMAX) (NYSE: IMAX) and AMC Theatres (NYSE: AMC) today announced that the number of IMAX at AMC locations is expected to increase by 15 percent year over year by the end of the first quarter 2017, with a total of 175 locations open by March 2017. AMC and IMAX also announced they are continuing to renovate popular IMAX at AMC locations to include movie-going amenities guests love.
Through its recent acquisition of Carmike, AMC added several IMAX locations, and through the opening of AMC Flatiron Crossing 14 in the Denver area, expected to be completed before April 1, AMC will operate 175 IMAX locations, expanding the Company’s footprint as the largest exhibitor of IMAX screens in North America. The company’s current commitment to IMAX is 185 theatres through 2019.
For the past year, AMC has been renovating and upgrading IMAX at AMC locations around the country, installing IMAX’s laser projection and 12-channel immersive sound as well as plush rocker seating at popular locations including AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York and AMC Metreon 16 in San Francisco. Renovations are also expected to take place in the coming months at AMC Empire 25 in New York, AMC Burbank 16 in Los Angeles, AMC Northpark 15 in Dallas and Navy Pier IMAX at AMC in Chicago – including sound and seating enchantments as well as re-designed entryways and auditorium branding.
“We are thrilled that as AMC continues to expand its reach throughout the United States, and the world, so too does our partnership with IMAX, allowing more AMC moviegoers than ever the opportunity to enjoy this immersive experience,” said John McDonald, Executive Vice President, U.S. Operations, AMC.
“We are delighted to reach this 175-theatre milestone with our long-term partner, AMC, and look forward to continuing to work together to grow both our domestic and international footprint even further,” said Mark Welton, President, IMAX Theatres. “We applaud AMC’s commitment to both quality presentation and comfort and we believe the renovations undergoing at these prominent IMAX at AMC locations will take The IMAX Experience to the next-level – just in time for what is shaping up to be a very exciting 2017 blockbuster lineup.”
