A newly re-edited and restored concert film capturing the first popular music performance ever staged at Mexico City’s storied Palacio de Bellas Artes, in Dolby Atmos audio
Sony Music Vision and Fathom Entertainment, the leading specialty distributor of content to theatrical partners worldwide, announced today that “Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes”, a newly re-edited and restored theatrical presentation of the legendary singer-songwriter’s 1990 performance at Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes, will come to U.S. theatres nationwide for the first time ever on September 15, 2026. Juan Gabriel’s “Bellas Artes” performance marked the first time a popular music artist ever performed at the storied venue, previously reserved for opera, ballet, classical music and fine arts. A six-time Grammy nominee, Juan Gabriel sold more than 100 million records over his four-decade career, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time.
Produced by Sony Music Vision and distributed internationally by Cinemex Alternativo, the special theatrical edition features a previously unseen introduction with rehearsal footage and material from Juan Gabriel’s personal archive.
The special event arrives in U.S. theatres on the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month and one day before Mexican Independence Day, inviting generations of fans to celebrate Juan Gabriel’s music and enduring cultural legacy on the big screen.
The re-edit and restoration of “Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes” was led by María José Cuevas, the director and visual artist behind the acclaimed Netflix docuseries “Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will,” in collaboration with MEZCLA, the production company that also worked with Cuevas on the series.
“Preserving Juan Gabriel’s legacy means ensuring that new generations can experience the moments that defined him. His 1990 Bellas Artes concert was not only a milestone in his career, but a landmark moment in Mexican and Hispanic music and culture. Bringing it back to the screens for the first time is a way of keeping that history alive,” said María José Cuevas.
“Juan Gabriel made history the night he stepped onto the Bellas Artes stage, and now audiences everywhere can experience that performance the way it deserves to be seen and heard, together, on the big screen,” said Shannah Miller, VP of Marketing at Fathom Entertainment. “Fathom is honored to bring this restored film to theatres nationwide as Hispanic Heritage Month begins, celebrating the enduring legacy of one of Mexico’s most beloved artists.”
“At Sony Music Vision, our mission is to bring music and cinematic storytelling together in ways that create meaningful experiences for audiences. Seeing this landmark Juan Gabriel concert reach theatres across the United States for the first time is a remarkable new chapter for an extraordinary performance and a powerful example of what that mission can achieve,” said Sergi Reitg, VP of Sony Music Vision Latin-Iberia.
The concert’s enduring place in Mexican music culture was reaffirmed in November 2025 during a massive public screening at Mexico City’s Zócalo, which drew 170,000 attendees. The new theatrical edition will be released in Mexico, Spain and LatAm on Aug. 28, 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of Juan Gabriel’s passing.
Tickets for “Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes” are available now online and at participating theatre box offices (theatre locations are subject to change). For more information, please visit Fathom Entertainment.
