Tenor Piotr Beczala and soprano Sonya Yoncheva star in their met role debuts, principal guest conductor Daniele Rustioni conducts
The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season continues with Giordano’s “Andrea Chénier” on Saturday, December 13, at 1PM ET. Tenor Piotr Beczala reunites with soprano Sonya Yoncheva, following their celebrated collaboration in Giordano’s “Fedora (2023).” After his recent turn as Radamès in Verdi’s “Aida” in the 2024–25 Live in HD season, Beczala makes his Met role debut as Chénier, and Yoncheva makes her Met role debut as Maddalena di Coigny.
Principal Guest Conductor Daniele Rustioni takes the podium, and baritone Igor Golovatenko makes his Met role debut as Carlo Gérard. He will reprise the title role of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” opposite soprano Asmik Grigorian later this season, with a Live in HD transmission on May 2.
Nicolas Joël’s production of Giordano’s tragedy premiered on April 6, 1996, and was last performed on the Met stage in 2014. The creative team for Joël’s production included set and costume designer Hubert Monloup and lighting designer Duane Schuler. The December 13 performance of “Andrea Chénier” will mark the opera’s 192nd performance at the Met and inaugural Live in HD transmission to cinemas worldwide.
Fathom Entertainment will also present two encores of “Andrea Chénier” in theatres on Wednesday, December 17, at 1:00PM and 6:30PM local time.
