Story of Pantone Matching System creator Lawrence Herbert set for release Dec. 12
Picturehouse has acquired all North American distribution rights to “The King of Color,” a new documentary from director Patrick Creadon (“Wordplay,” “Hesburgh”) about Lawrence Herbert, creator of the Pantone Matching System (PMS). Premiering Friday, Oct. 24, as part of AFI Fest, the film will have a limited theatrical release beginning Dec. 12.
Herbert, a visionary whose innovative idea to standardize color with the Pantone Matching System, revolutionized the worldwide language and use of color. This compelling documentary features an exclusive interview with Herbert, offering an intimate glimpse into the mind behind Pantone and his enduring impact on how we perceive and use color today.

Creadon is an acclaimed American director known for his influential documentary work. His feature directorial debut, “Wordplay” (2006), which profiles the New York Times crossword puzzle, was a breakout hit at the Sundance Film Festival. Creadon’s other notable directing credits include: “If you build it” (2013), “ESPN’s 30 for 30: Catholics vs. Convicts” (2018), “Hesburgh” (2018), and “ski bum: the Warren Miller Story” (2019).
