Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to screen six films personally selected by the "Last Night in Soho" filmmaker
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is proud to announce that Edgar Wright, the acclaimed filmmaker behind “Shaun of the Dead”, “Scott Pilgrim Vs The World”, and the brand new psychological thriller from Focus Features, “Last Night in Soho”, has curated a limited series of repertory classics called Edgar Wright Presents.
Beginning in November exclusively at Alamo Drafthouse locations in Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, South Lamar (Austin), Los Angeles, and San Francisco, guests will join Edgar for a deep dive into cinephilia, screening six of Edgar’s ten recommendations. From lustful nuns in the Himalayas to Weimar-era Berlin to South Korean erotic thrillers, the series ranges from the 1940s and up through 2016, including “Black Narcissus”, “Blood and Black Lace”, “Death Line”, “Peeping Tom”, “The Handmaiden” and “Cabaret”.
“Alamo Drafthouse invited me to program a few films I think you all should see,” Wright said in a video introduction for the series. “Regardless of whether they hypothetically may or may not have influenced or informed my new film “Last Night in Soho”.”
Edgar Wright Presents is an expansion of Alamo Drafthouse’s Guest Selects series, which gives filmmakers, writers, and performers the opportunity to program films they love for Alamo Drafthouse’s famously film loving fans.
“Whether it’s The Green Knight’s David Lowery highlighting style notes he picked up from “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”, or Nia DaCosta connecting her “Candyman” with “School of Rock”, or even Ari Aster opening our new Manhattan location this weekend with “Age of Innocence”,” says John W. Smith, Alamo Drafthouse Senior Film Programmer. “Alamo Drafthouse has been a theater where filmmakers and film lovers alike can gather together to learn, share, and (re)discover cinema. This limited series with Edgar continues that tradition.”
In acclaimed director Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller “Last Night in Soho”, Eloise, an aspiring fashion designer, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters a dazzling wannabe singer, Sandie. But the glamour is not all it appears to be and the dreams of the past start to crack and splinter into something far darker.
Following a rapturously received US premiere of “Last Night in Soho” at Fantastic Fest with Edgar Wright in attendance, the film opens nationwide at Alamo Drafthouse locations on October 29, 2021. Advance tickets are now available at Drafthouse.com.
