The European Digital Cinema Forum (EDCF) has launched ‘The Buyers Guide to Laser Projection’, a free, impartial and accessible guide to the technology basics behind laser projection and the issues that laser projection in cinemas brings up.
Lamp-based projectors still account for the clear majority of machines in place in the market but laser as an alternative light source is gaining ground and the economics of laser are changing rapidly. This makes the publication of this Guide very timely.
Given this, the EDCF, in partnership with the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) decided to draw up this Guide with the four main projector manufacturers (Barco, Christie, NEC and Sony) and based on questions provided by the exhibitor members of UNIC, all of whom we thank.
David Hancock (IHS Markit and EDCF President) and Matt Jahans (Harkness Screens and EDCF Board Member), co-editors of the Guide, commented, “This Guide is intended to help exhibitors and other interested parties understand the basics of laser illuminated projection, and to bring the industry up to a similar level of knowledge. The Guide is structured in such a way that it answers genuine questions people have about laser, in a clear and impartial way. We also address some of the questions we don’t yet know the answer to.”
The Guide, which is in a Powerpoint slide deck format, is available from the EDCF website (www.edcf.net) or directly by emailing jgedcf@talktalk.net
