Supports the launch of SUPERNOVA, Procinal’s newly released PLF auditorium
Cinema Equipment and Supplies – CE+S – the global leader in digital cinema solutions, announced that it was selected by major Colombian movie theatre circuit, Cinemas Procinal, to lead the design and implementation of the first theatre in Colombia to showcase the award-winning Dolby Atmos technology.
Earlier this year Cinemas Procinal announced the launch of SUPERNOVA, the circuit’s first PLF auditorium outfitted with Dolby Atmos, a technology that breathes life into storytelling by allowing filmmakers the creative freedom to easily place and move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, including overhead, to make audiences feel as if they are inside the movie and not merely watching it.
“CE+S is our premier technology provider and most revered trusted advisor,” said Juan Mayungo, Director of Finance and Operations at Cinemas Procinal. “We have been working together for over 25 years and thanks to them we maintain a leading position in the marketplace as one of the most innovative and highest-ranked movie theatre networks in the country, valued for our superior audiovisual and content management technology.”
Cinemas Procinal operates nine sites and 48 screens across Colombia and received more than 2.4 million guests in 2015. With the launch of the SUPERNOVA PLF auditorium, Procinal anticipates to have more than 3 million guests by the end of 2016. The company already has plans to open more SUPERNOVA auditoriums by the end of the year.
“We are very proud to keep strengthening our relationship with Cinemas Procinal and to have been selected as their partner to bring the first Dolby Atmos equipped theatre to the Colombian market,” said Luis Arreola, VP, Business Development at CE+S. “Together we are committed to continue delivering the most fascinating entertainment experiences to the audiences through cutting edge technology and digital innovation.”
Dolby Atmos has become the preferred choice for next-generation sound in the cinema, with major studios, award-winning filmmakers, and exhibitors from around the world embracing its approach. Unlike traditional channel-based sound systems, which require filmmakers to think about the number and location of speakers, Dolby Atmos allows them to simply designate where in the cinema space each sound should be placed or moved to make audiences experience the movie as if they were within its world. Since its introduction, more than 400 movies have been announced and more than 1600 screens have been installed or committed to globally.
“With Dolby Atmos the audience is no longer watching a movie, they are experiencing it,” said Carlos Watanabe, Director, Latin American Sales, Dolby Laboratories. “It’s exciting to see the continued growth of Dolby Atmos in Latin America and the tremendous support from CE+S. Dolby is confident that Cinemas Procinal movie-goers in Medellin will go back again and again for the extraordinary experience that only Dolby Atmos can deliver.”
CE+S has been a pioneer in the design and installation of Dolby Atmos technology in Latin America, with four theatres carrying the technology in Colombia, Guatemala and Peru and a fifth one currently in construction in Brazil. In 2014 CE+S built its very own Dolby Atmos equipped theatre at their headquarters in Miami to be used as a training and testing center of excellence for their employees, customers and partners.
Aiming to take the audience experience to the next level at Procinal’s SUPERNOVA auditorium, CE+S built an avant-garde, end-to-end audiovisual system that also features a Christie True 4K digital projector and a three-story tall silver screen.
