Los Angeles ( October 11, 2023 ) -

Brainstorm Media is thrilled to announce its acquisition of the North American Rights of highly acclaimed comedy, “Cora Bora.” The deal, negotiated by CAA Media Finance, which also arranged the film’s financing, and Alex Peters, VP of Sales and Acquisitions at Brainstorm Media, marks another exciting addition to Brainstorm Media’s diverse portfolio of compelling and unique films.

In her first starring role, Megan Stalter (“Hacks”) received rave reviews for her portrayal of the character of Cora opposite co-stars Jojo T. Gibbs (“Fresh”) and Manny Jacinto (“Top Gun: Maverick”). The film follows the journey of Cora, who senses her open relationship is on the rocks. When the struggling musician and messy millennial goes home to Portland to win her girlfriend back, she realizes it’s much more than her love life that needs salvaging. The film features an excellent ensemble cast, including Ayden Mayeri (“I Love That for You”), Thomas Mann (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”), Chelsea Peretti (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Jen Tullock (“Severance”), Margaret Cho, Heather Morris (“Glee”), Chrissie Fit (“Pitch Perfect” franchise), Darrell Hammond (“SNL”), and more. “Cora Bora” features original music and score composed by the breakout indie rock/pop artist, Miya Folick.

“Cora Bora” made its world premiere at SXSW 2023, followed by Outfest, Frameline, Provincetown Film Festival, and the upcoming NewFest. The film garnered attention and acclaim for its fresh storytelling, exceptional cast, and thought-provoking themes. More than just a film; it’s a powerful testament to the importance of authentic representation in cinema. Director Hannah Pearl Utt (“Before You Know It”) and writer Rhianon Jones (“Cora Bora”) have masterfully crafted a heartwarming yet hilarious narrative that resonates with audiences of all backgrounds.

“We are delighted to share ‘Cora Bora’ with audiences,” says Brainstorm Media CEO Michelle Shwarzstein “Hannah Pearl Utt and Rhianon Jones have created a fun and hilarious story which explores the complexities of love and self-identity. Cora is the type of flawed yet relatable character whom we don’t get to see reflected on screen nearly enough.”

Director Hannah Pearl Utt expressed her excitement about the acquisition, saying, “I’m thrilled for audiences to get to see Meg in a leading role and to fall for her character the way I have. I feel lucky to have such warm and collaborative partners in Brainstorm as we find our way into audiences’ hearts!”

Sundance Creative Producer alum Mallory Schwartz is producing for Almanor Films alongside Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman for Los Angeles Media Fund. Andrew Blau, Luke Rodgers, and Morgan Earnest are serving as executive producers, as are Rhianon Jones and Tristan Scott–Behrends for Neon Heart Productions.

“Cora Bora” is set to continue its festival run this month and will be released in theaters February 2024, offering moviegoers the perfect opportunity to experience a touching, laugh-out-loud film that leaves a lasting impression.
