Oaks Center Cinema has created the world’s first theatrical auditorium to combine a cinema-scale Samsung Onyx LED display with immersive D-BOX motion seating, delivering an unprecedented combination of visual and physical immersion. The installation also marks the first Samsung Onyx theatrical experience in the Northeastern United States, bringing the technology to the region for the first time.
Set to open in December 2026, the new auditorium will feature a 38-foot Samsung Onyx direct-view LED display, replacing the conventional cinema projector and projection screen with a display that generates its own light through individual LEDs. The project is currently under construction and will also feature 41 reclining D-BOX motion seats.
Unlike conventional projection, Samsung Onyx delivers 4K resolution, HDR picture quality, exceptionally deep blacks, brilliant whites, rich color and consistent brightness across the image. Because the image is produced directly by the LED display, there is no projector and no traditional projection screen.
But Oaks Is Taking the Technology One Step Further
The Samsung Onyx auditorium will pair the LED display with D-BOX motion seating, creating a theatrical experience that engages audiences both visually and physically. D-BOX technology uses precisely synchronized movements, vibrations and tactile effects to bring the action on screen into the seat itself.
“We’ve seen firsthand how D-BOX can transform the way audiences experience a movie. Pairing that immersive motion with Samsung Onyx creates something we haven’t seen before—a theatrical experience that engages the audience’s eyes and their senses in an entirely new way.” says Kristina Warner, Vice President, Theatrical, D-BOX. “Oaks Center Cinema is pushing the boundaries of what a movie theater can be, and we’re thrilled that D-BOX is part of it.”
Oaks Center Cinema has offered D-BOX since December 2025, giving audiences the opportunity to experience films including “Project Hail Mary”, “Toy Story 5”, and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” through immersive motion. The new auditorium will take that experience to another level by combining D-BOX haptics with Samsung’s Cinematic Direct View LED technology.
Samsung Onyx has already demonstrated its potential to transform the theatrical image. In 2023, Disney and Pixar announced that “Elemental” had been mastered in 4K theatrical HDR for Samsung Onyx, with Pixar stating that it planned to continue mastering content for the format. Samsung describes Onyx as a cinema LED display designed to deliver vivid color, high contrast and detail beyond the capabilities of traditional projection.
While the first three Samsung Onyx screens in the United States are operating in California, Texas and Georgia, the technology has not previously been installed for theatrical use in the Northeast. Oaks Center Cinema’s new auditorium will bring Samsung Onyx to the region for the first time
“Premium experiences continue to demonstrate that moviegoers will leave home for something truly special. By combining Samsung Onyx Cinema LED technology with D-BOX motion seating, Oaks Center Cinema is creating a destination experience unlike anything else in the market. We’re proud to partner with the Valley Forge Promotions team on a project that pushes the boundaries of theatrical exhibition and showcases what’s possible when innovation and imagination come together,” says Scott Hanlon, VP of Sales at Moving iMage Technologies.
With an increasingly ambitious slate of films arriving late in 2026 such as “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Dune: Part 3,” Oaks Center Cinema believes the theatrical experience has never offered more reasons to leave the living room behind. The new Samsung Onyx + D-BOX auditorium brings together extraordinary image quality and immersive motion in a single premium environment—creating an experience audiences cannot get at home.
