Cinema marketing leader expands executive team as company continues rapid growth across North America and international markets
PaperAirplane today announced the promotion of Amanda Rufener to Senior Vice President, Exhibitor Marketing & Operations. In her expanded role, Rufener will lead the company’s account team, overseeing partnerships with studios, exhibitors, and marketplace partners while driving the strategic use and growth of exhibitor media channels across the theatrical landscape.
Rufener joined PaperAirplane in April of 2021 following a distinguished 11 year career in Lionsgate’s Exhibitor Marketing department. Since joining the company, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening client relationships, expanding strategic initiatives, and helping shape PaperAirplane’s exhibitor marketing efforts.
In addition to her new responsibilities, Rufener will continue to oversee PaperAirplane’s creative asset team, which collaborates closely with studios, exhibitors, and industry partners to develop digital marketing materials that help drive awareness and engagement for upcoming theatrical releases. She is currently working on films including “Fall 2” (Lionsgate premiere) “Cookie Queens” (Roadside Attractions), “Beware of Bouina” (Lionsgate Premiere), and “Spa Weekend” (Black Bear) among others.
“Amanda has excelled in her role since joining PaperAirplane over five years ago and has become one of the most respected executives in our industry,” said Mike Polydoros, CEO and Co-Founder of PaperAirplane. “Her leadership, industry expertise, and unwavering commitment to our clients have been instrumental to our success and growth.”
“Amanda embodies PaperAirplane’s philosophy of rejecting a one-size-fits-all approach and instead adapting to the unique needs of every client,” added Will Preuss, President and Co-Founder of PaperAirplane. “Her leadership, creativity, and dedication make her the perfect choice to help lead PaperAirplane into its next chapter.”
“I’m excited to continue my career at PaperAirplane and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this company. Our industry is evolving and it’s exciting to be at such a dynamic organization”, said Rufener.
PaperAirplane also announced an expanded role for longtime team member Meggie Isom who will now serve as Vice President of Exhibitor Marketing. In addition to her broadened responsibilities, Isom will continue to collaborate with the company’s studio and exhibitor partners, developing and executing marketing campaigns for films of all sizes. She is currently working on films including “The Magic Far Away Tree” (Vertical), “The Fix” (Briarcliff) and “Christmas at the Kringles” (Briarcliff)
“Meggie has been a cornerstone of PaperAirplane since day one,” said Preuss. “She combines an exceptional understanding of our industry with an unmatched dedication to our clients and partners. Her new title recognizes the impact she has had on our company and the leadership role she continues to play as we grow and evolve.”
“Meggie has earned the trust and respect of exhibitors, studios, and partners across North America,” added Polydoros. “She leads with authenticity, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping our clients succeed. She has become an invaluable leader within our organization, and we couldn’t be more excited to recognize her contributions with this new role.”
Since its founding in July 2020, PaperAirplane has emerged as a leading cinema marketing agency, working with virtually every major studio and exhibitor organization across North America. The company has earned a reputation as one of the industry’s most trusted partners through innovative marketing solutions that streamline and enhance theatrical marketing efforts.
Founded by Polydoros and Preuss to address the evolving needs of studios, exhibitors, and marketplace partners, PaperAirplane has introduced several industry-leading tools designed to simplify how exhibitors market films to audiences.
Among those innovations is “The Hangar,” launched in October 2020, which has become the industry’s central hub for the distribution of digital marketing assets. In June 2025, PaperAirplane expanded The Hangar internationally, launching the platform in the United Kingdom and Latin America.
