NEW YORK, NEW YORK & DENVER, COLORADO ( December 30, 2025 ) -

The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 “Live in HD” season continues with Bellini’s “I Puritani” on Saturday, January 10, at 1PM ET, marking the Met’s first new production of this opera in nearly 50 years. Grammy Award–winning soprano Lisette Oropesa stars as Elvira, opposite tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Arturo, bringing together two of today’s leading interpreters of the bel canto repertoire.

Having conquered the world’s greatest stages with her interpretations of virtuosic roles by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, and Verdi, Oropesa most recently appeared as Elvira alongside Brownlee at the Paris Opera earlier this year. At the Met in 2025, Brownlee has already starred in three major bel canto tenor roles—Count Almaviva in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” Tonio in Donizetti’s “La Fille du Régiment,” and Elvino in Bellini’s “La Sonnambula”—and previously appeared as Arturo with the company to great acclaim in 2014. Completing the all-star principal cast are baritone Artur Ruciński as Riccardo and bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as Giorgio. Maestro Marco Armiliato conducts.

The new production marks Charles Edwards’s Met directorial debut. Known internationally for his imaginative stage and set designs, Edwards has previously created scenery for four Met productions by David McVicar, beginning with Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” in 2009. Edward’s staging of “I Puritani” remains rooted in the opera’s 17th-century English Civil War setting and reveals the psychological intensity at the heart of Bellini’s final work.

Edwards’s creative team includes costume designer Gabrielle Dalton, lighting designer Tim Mitchell, and movement director Tim Claydon—all making their company debuts. “I Puritani” has been performed only 63 times since its first Met performance in 1883, when it was included in the first week of the company’s inaugural season.

Fathom Entertainment will also present two encores of “I Puritani” in theatres on Wednesday, January 14, at 1:00PM and 6:30PM local time.

Tickets for “I Puritani” are now on sale at more than 700 participating U.S. theatre locations. To purchase tickets for “I Puritani” please visit the Fathom Entertainment website or participating theatre box offices (participating theatres are subject to change).
