Outfit financing and producing "The Red Room," film based on the notorious Japanese urban legend
Andrea Bucko (“Deadman’s Wire,” “Alpha Gang,” “Longlegs”) of Sugar Rush Pictures and Raised by Wolves and producer Motoko Kimura (“A Moment to Remember,” “LDK,” “Ushijima the Loan Shark”) have launched Yume Entertainment, a global film and television finance and production company. Yume Entertainment will focus on bold, boundary-pushing storytelling with deep international reach while also supporting and amplifying emerging creators.
Yume, meaning “born from a dream” in Japanese, represents both a creative manifesto and a cinematic banner—one rooted in vision, rebellion, and the belief that daring narratives deserve sophisticated, global support.
Along with financing and producing film and television projects, Yume is dedicated to championing emerging creators, such as Yumiko Fujiwara, whose haunting drama “The Fire Outside” was featured on the 2021 Black List. Yume is making its debut by developing and producing Fujiwara’s upcoming film “The Red Room,” inspired by the notorious Japanese urban legend that once terrorized early internet culture.
“The Red Room” follows a mysterious disappearance in the late 1990s after a cursed computer pop-up appears at a teenage sleepover. Two decades later, the past reawakens when an email from the missing girl triggers the same sinister pop-up, pulling her childhood friends into a corrupted corner of the internet—and into the heart of Japan’s most chilling digital myth. CAA Media Finance will handle North American rights to the film.
Andrea Bucko is a passionate storyteller with a distinct taste for genre-defying and thought-provoking filmmaking. She is a producer under her own banner, Sugar Rush Pictures, and is also the co-founder of Raised by Wolves, a development fund and finance company from herself and Jordan Claire Robbins. Bucko’s recent and upcoming credits include “Deadman’s Wire,” “Alpha Gang,” “Bucking Fastard,” “Longlegs,” and “The Technique.”
Motoko Kimura is a film, television, and theater creator and producer redefining Japanese storytelling for the global stage. Through her work, which spans 15 mini-series and 16 feature films including international hits such as “A Moment to Remember” (South Korea), “LDK,” and “Ushijima the Loan Shark,” Kimura has become a key bridge between Asia and Hollywood, championing Asian IP and talent with a vision that blends cultural authenticity and worldwide appeal.
“Yume is where dreams, instinct, and fearless imagination meet the rigor of world-class financing and production,” said Andrea Bucko. “Utilizing our unique dual foundation in Hollywood and Japan, we aim to champion storytellers who push against the familiar and speak directly to the visceral human experience.”
“As a Japanese producer working internationally, I want Yume to be a home for bold voices, especially those bridging Asia and Hollywood,” said Motoko Kimura. “We are thrilled to be working with Yumiko Fujiwara for our debut film, ‘The Red Room,’ as this is the type of project that defines Yume – one of international reach stemming from a talented emerging creator.”
Yume also has an upcoming project with the third-largest comics publisher in the United States, Dark Horse Comics, which is behind some of the most iconic comics/series including “Hellboy,” “The Mask,” “Umbrella Academy,” and more.
Yume is also currently developing multiple high-profile Japanese IPs in partnership with major media companies such as Shogakukan and Gentosha.
