The Motion Picture Association (MPA) today announced Marissa Bostick as its new Senior Vice President and Head of Global Litigation. Bostick is a former Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York. She has also taught criminal law as a visiting law school professor in the US and abroad.

Bostick will oversee all global anti-piracy legal matters on behalf of the MPA, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), and member companies and will work across the global enterprise to develop enforcement strategies. She will also oversee all litigation brought internationally by ACE as well as litigation matters related to the MPA’s member studios. With Bostick’s hire, the MPA and ACE team in the United States has more than 40 years of U.S. Department of Justice experience between them, complementing the broad bench of experience from the MPA’s international content protection team.

She is based in Washington, DC, and reports to Karyn Temple, Senior Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel for the MPA.

“Fighting piracy and upholding the rule of law is a global enterprise – and Marissa possesses the experience, expertise, skillset, knowledge, and vision to elevate and expand our legal operations worldwide,” said Temple. “With Marissa helping make our case in the courts, our ACE and MPA teams will give studios, casts, and crews another clear and strong voice working to protect content, defend copyrights, and preserve creativity everywhere we do business.”

Before joining the MPA, Bostick was Deputy Director for the Counterfeit Crimes Unit at Amazon. There she oversaw hundreds of civil actions and criminal referrals to worldwide law enforcement against infringers and their networks, and directly supported resulting criminal raids, charges, and trials. She helped lead a global team of 30 people, including attorneys, investigators, and data specialists. Earlier in her career she spent eight years with the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, where she investigated and prosecuted cases involving securities and complex financial frauds, including a $554 million investment fraud scheme. Bostick previously served as a Fulbright Scholar on international criminal law, spending two years living in Eastern Europe.

“I’m honored to join such a world-class team of content protection professionals, and I look forward to applying my previous experience in criminal infringement and civil litigation to address the global threat of digital piracy,” Bostick said. “Intellectual property rights are the backbone of the creative economy, and I am confident I can make a positive difference for content creators around the world.”

Bostick graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law.
