How Judging Works

Submission-led categories

For submission-led awards, remote evaluation of the entry and its supporting evidence constitutes the final judging. Remote results determine the finalists and confidential winner. Attendance at the Austin event is encouraged but is not required for these categories.

Live-final categories

Four categories culminate in live tasting and judging at the Dine-In Cinema Summit in Austin:

  • Best Entrée
  • Best Appetizer or Shareable
  • Best Dessert
  • Best Cocktail

Remote judging selects the finalists but does not determine the winner. Qualification scores reset before the live final; judging of the offerings served in Austin determines the winning entry.

Live finalists must be able to reproduce substantially the same offering for the Austin tasting, through the operator or an approved representative and execution arrangement. After selection, finalists will be asked for necessary recipe or specification information, ingredients, allergen details, equipment and service requirements. Reasonable venue-driven adjustments may be approved; a materially upgraded competition-only version is not permitted. Detailed instructions will be provided to finalists.

Best of Show

Best of Show is an expert-jury-only award selected from the winners of the four live-tasting categories: Best Entrée, Best Appetizer or Shareable, Best Dessert and Best Cocktail.

Judging is a fresh evaluation; earlier category scores do not carry over. Every juror must evaluate every eligible offering.

Audience Choice

Audience Choice is a separate award determined by attendee voting. All finalists in the four live-tasting categories are eligible, not just the category winners. Each participating attendee has one vote.

Neither Best of Show nor Audience Choice is a separately entered category.

General Competition Rules

Eligibility and submission authority

The competition is open to qualifying cinema operations in the United States and Canada. Offerings, programs, initiatives and achievements must satisfy the applicable category rules for October 1, 2025–September 30, 2026. An operator may enter directly, or an authorized third party may enter on its behalf. Leadership nominations may also be submitted by colleagues, industry peers or nominees themselves.

Entries and category limits

Operators generally submit one entry per program-level category. Additional entries are not automatically prohibited, provided each represents a distinct eligible program. Individual-item awards generally permit up to four entries per operator per category. Cross-category entry is allowed when the categories recognize different eligible accomplishments. Best F&B Operational Innovation specifically permits multiple initiatives.

Required supporting materials

Each entry must supply the materials specified for its category. Professional photography or video production is not itself judged, and simple phone-shot video is acceptable where a category requires video. Entrants should provide accurate information reflecting their actual cinema operations.

Finalists

The Awards generally seek approximately three finalists from distinct operators in each category or activated division, but may select fewer if the eligible field does not warrant three. An operator may have no more than one finalist in the same category or division. An operator may be a finalist in more than one different category.

Judging and attendance

For submission-led awards, remote judging is final and attendance in Austin is encouraged but optional. For live-final awards, remote judging selects finalists, and the Austin tasting determines the winner. A live finalist must participate through the operator or an approved representative/execution arrangement.

Competition administration

Celluloid Junkie administers eligibility, entry classification and competition decisions. Where the field of entries warrants it, CJ may combine, divide, rename, defer or withhold a category before final judging, applying changes consistently and in a manner that preserves a credible competition. Best Dine-In Menu starts as one category; entrants do not select a size-based division. Sponsorship does not influence eligibility, judging scores or award outcomes.

How to Enter

Choose the category that best matches your eligible offering, program, innovation or leadership achievement. Sign in or create a Celluloid Junkie account, complete the online entry form and supply the required evidence. Draft entries can be saved and resumed before the deadline.

Entry deadline: Friday, December 11, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
