ODEON Excited to Reopen its Doors on 17 May and Welcome Guests Back to the Big Screen

Odeon is reopening its cinemas on May 17 in the UK
London, UK ( May 4, 2021 ) -

ODEON, the UK’s largest cinema chain group, is delighted to announce that from Monday 17 May, we will begin welcoming guests back to enjoy films in the best possible way – on the big screen.

We will be reopening the vast majority of our sites for opening day, including our flagship ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, ODEON Trafford Centre and ODEON Luxe Birmingham Broadway Plaza.

The greatest range of films
There are a host of new film releases coming in 2021, including ‘Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway’, ‘Fast & Furious 9’, Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and the long awaited ‘No Time to Die’.

In addition to these new blockbusters, and recent releases, we will also be screening a huge selection of modern and classic titles across different themes, including indie, feel good and Diverse Cinema.

Something for everyone
We strongly believe there will be something for everyone, from myLIMITLESS members to those bringing the whole family, planning a date night and everyone in between. Whatever is being shown, the joy of watching it at ODEON is unparalleled, with the biggest screens, tastiest treats, the best acoustics and the most comfortable seats.

We’re reopening with great offers, including myLIMITLESS from just £9.99 per month (until 30 September) and with just a three-month minimum term commitment for those who pay monthly. Whilst we’ve been closed, we’ve also built a new app and website that makes the ticket booking process easier and safer.

We continue to invest in our systems, our offers and the experience for our guests, particularly members, including myODEON Saver tickets on selected shows throughout the week and all day on Member Mondays.

Thank you to our fantastic colleagues
Our colleagues have been working tirelessly to ensure we are ready to reopen safely, when allowed by the Government, and we would like to say a huge thank you to them for their amazing efforts and continuing hard work.

We know guests are excited to return, and there is data to suggest that a huge number have missed the cinema. Recent research from MetrixLab suggests strong pent up demand for cinema in the UK, with the survey predicting an eager return to cinemas once reopened, in a more urgent and confident fashion than last year. 59% of people surveyed say cinema is one of the activities they miss the most, the highest level seen during the pandemic, while 48% anticipate spending more money on cinema in 2021.

We cannot wait to immerse ourselves back in the community, providing a much-loved pastime, an entertaining experience and a chance to unplug from reality.

A safe experience
The wellbeing of our guests and our colleagues is our top priority and all our sites will be fully COVID compliant, with strict social distancing protocols in place. To ensure guests can enjoy the ODEON safer cinema experience in the most controlled environment, we have worked with the UK Cinema Association and UK Government to introduce enhanced health and safety measures to each site. These safety measures include:

A safer space
We’re limiting the number of seats for sale for each film and guaranteeing unoccupied seats between parties to meet social distancing requirements.

We’re staggering the show start times to reduce queues and operating safe queuing measures with floor markings and cinema host support.

Safer buying
We recommend you book online as a myODEON member for a contactless experience with all ticket checks conducted visually only.

We’re offering a range of pre-packaged food and drinks, with contactless payments.

We no longer accept cash, but we have increased our contactless limit to help you buy safer.

Enhanced cleaning throughout
We’ll have more frequent and more thorough cleaning routines throughout the cinema, with extra controls in all toilet facilities.

Stations offering sanitising gels and wipes with our compliments will be available at allocated points.

In the care of a well-trained team
All cinema teams have been trained on the new safety and hygiene measures.

Colleagues will be equipped with personal protective equipment – including face coverings and gloves.

Face covering in cinemas
Please wear a suitable face covering when you visit our cinemas, in line with government guidelines. When seated in the auditorium you will be socially distant from other guests, and you may remove your face covering to enjoy food and drinks.

Within our Costa outlets, you may remove your face covering to eat and drink once you are seated and socially distant from other guests.

Carol Welch, Managing Director ODEON Cinemas Group UK, Ireland said:
“I am delighted to be welcoming guests back to experience the joy of the big screen at ODEON on 17 May. We’ve all missed the magic that the cinema brings to movie watching, and we know our guests are excited about coming back. We are sure they will enjoy the great new offers that make their movie experiences better than ever. I would like to say a huge thank you to all our ODEON team members for their amazing energy and commitment over the last 12 months which has allowed us to get back to what we do best – welcoming guests back to experience movies in the best possible way.”
