Lionsgate Spins a “Cobweb” as Film is Set to Commence Production this Month from Vertigo and Point Grey

Film Stars Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, Cleopatra Coleman and Woody Norman

(September 15, 2020) – Global content leader Lionsgate is set to start production on the upcoming thriller “Cobweb” later this month, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The film stars Lizzy Caplan (“Castle Rock,” “Masters of Sex”), Antony Starr (“The Boys,” “Banshee”), Cleopatra Coleman (“In the Shadow of the Moon,” “The Argument”), and Woody Norman (“Poldark,” the forthcoming C’mon C’mon). The announcement was made today by Erin Westerman, President of Production for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

“Cobweb,” which was #1 on the Bloodlist and ranked very high on The Black List, centers on a small town, in an ordinary house that seems like any other, where a young boy hears a mysterious tapping from inside the walls – and suspects his parents are hiding a terrible secret.

The production commences on the heels of the successful wrap of Lionsgate’s “The Devil’s Light,” also in Bulgaria.

Commenting on the announcement, Westerman said, “We are big believers in the horror business, and the continuous need for content so we are thrilled to be partnered with Vertigo and Point Grey in bringing Sam Bodin’s first film to screen.”

Directed by Samuel Bodin, the film is written by Chris Thomas Devlin and produced by Roy Lee through his Vertigo Entertainment banner, and by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, through Point Grey. Jon Berg also serves as producer. Andrew Childs and Josh Fagen will executive produce. Jim Miller and Meredith Wieck are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

Lizzy Caplan is joining the cast as Carol, the mother of the young boy. Antony Starr plays Mark, the boy’s father. Woody Norman stars as Peter, a timid boy who becomes increasingly troubled by the strange tapping he hears within the walls at night. Cleopatra Coleman will portray Miss Devine, Peter’s substitute teacher, filling in at the local elementary school.

Bodin’s production team includes two of his key crew members from Marianne, director of photography Philip Lozano and editor Richard Riffaud. They are joined by production designer Alan Gilmore (Crawl) and costume designer Anna Gelinova (Asst. Costume Designer on The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard; Costume Supervisor on Angel Has Fallen).

Lizzy Caplan most recently starred in a dual role as twins on Apple TV+’s “Truth Be Told.” Prior to that, she played Annie Wilkes in the Hulu series “Castle Rock” and was Emmy-nominated for her role on Showtime’s “Masters of Sex.” She is represented by WME, Rise Management, Jackoway Austen Tyerman and Viewpoint.

Antony Starr stars as “Homelander” on Point Grey’s hit series for Amazon “The Boys,” currently airing Season 2. He is represented by UTA, Impression Entertainment, and Wolf Kasteler.

Cleopatra Coleman is best-known for her work on the television series “The Last Man on Earth.” She most recently starred in the feature film The Argument. She is represented by Management 360, CAA and Mckuin, Frankel & Whitehead.

Woody Norman recently starred in the EPIX television miniseries adaptation of “The War of the Worlds” and the popular PBS/BBC One series “Poldark.” Norman will next be seen starring opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the film C’mon C’mon, written and directed by Mike Mills. He is represented by Paradigm, Sylvia Young Agency in the UK, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, et al.
